Coconut Oil and Alzheimer’s Disease

How worried should drug companies be about supplements eating into their monopoly profits? A lot—as this story will show. Please share it with anyone you know who is suffering from Alzheimer’s or is worried about it.

Of course, just about everyone worries about Alzheimer’s. It currently afflicts 5.2 million people in the US and is the seventh leading cause of death. The cost of treating it is estimated at $148 billion.
Mary Newport, MD, has been medical director of the neonatal intensive care unit at Spring Hill Regional Hospital in Florida since it opened in 2003. About the same time the unit opened, her husband Steve, then 53, began showing signs of progressive dementia, later diagnosed as Alzheimer’s Disease. “Many days, often for several days in a row, he was in a fog; couldn’t find a spoon or remember how to get water out of the refrigerator,” she said.
They started him on Alzheimer’s drugs—Aricept, Namenda, Exelon—but his disease worsened steadily. (It should be noted that the latest research shows that the various Alzheimer’s drugs, like Aricept, have proven disappointing, with little real benefit and often distressing side effects.) When Dr. Newport couldn’t get her husband into a drug trial for a new Alzheimer’s medication, she started researching the mechanism behind Alzheimer’s.
She discovered that with Alzheimer’s disease, certain brain cells may have difficulty utilizing glucose (made from the carbohydrates we eat), the brain’s principal source of energy. Without fuel, these precious neurons may begin to die. There is an alternative energy source for brain cells—fats known as ketones. If deprived of carbohydrates, the body produces ketones naturally.
But this is the hard way to do it—who wants to cut carbohydrates out of the diet completely? Another way to produce ketones is by consuming oils that have medium-chain triglycerides. When MCT oil is digested, the liver converts it into ketones. In the first few weeks of life, ketones provide about 25 percent of the energy newborn babies need to survive.
Dr. Newport learned that the ingredient in the drug trial which was showing so much promise was simply MCT oil derived from coconut oil or palm kernel oil, and that a dose of 20 grams (about 20 ml or 4 teaspoons) was used to produce these results. When MCT oil is metabolized, the ketones which the body creates may, according to the latest research, not only protect against the incidence of Alzheimer’s, but may actually reverse it. Moreover, this is also a potential treatment for Parkinson’s disease, Huntington’s disease, multiple sclerosis and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS or Lou Gehrig’s disease), drug-resistant epilepsy, brittle type I diabetes, and type II (insulin-resistant) diabetes.
So Mr. Newport, not being able to get into the drug trial, started taking the coconut oil twice a day. At this point, he could barely remember how to draw a clock. Two weeks after adding coconut oil to his diet, his drawing improved. After 37 days, Steve’s drawing gained even more clarity. The oil seemed to “lift the fog,” and in the first sixty days, Dr. Newport saw remarkable changes in him: every morning he was alert and happy, talkative, making jokes. His gait was “still a little weird,” but his tremor was no longer very noticeable. He was able to concentrate on things that he wanted to do around the house and in the yard and stay on task, whereas before coconut oil he was easily distractible and rarely accomplished anything unless he was directly supervised.
Over the next year, the dementia continued to reverse itself: he is able to run again, his reading comprehension has improved dramatically, and his short-term memory is improving—he often brings up events that happened days to weeks earlier and relays telephone conversations with accurate detail. A recent MRI shows that the brain atrophy has been completely halted.
Let’s take a moment to consider what actually happened here. Synthetic (patentable) Alzheimer’s drugs have failed. A drug company reluctantly decides to put a non-patentable natural substance (medium-chain triglycerides derived from coconut or palm) through an FDA trial. It works. But, darn it, a smart doctor figures out that a natural food can be substituted for the super-expensive drug. Not only that, the ketones from natural coconut oil last in the body longer than the drug version—eight hours instead of three hours. This is enough to make a drug company start worrying about its future. What if this natural health idea really catches on? Goodbye to monopoly profits!
Coconut oil can be found in many health food stores and even some grocery stores. One large chain sells a non-hydrogenated (no trans-fat) brand of coconut oil in a one-liter size (nearly 32 ounces) for about $7. It can be purchased in quantities as small as a pint and up to five gallons online. It is important to use coconut oil that is non-hydrogenated and contains no trans-fat. We would also strongly encourage the use of virgin oil (chemicals used to extract non-virgin oil are potentially dangerous, and better still, virgin organic, still quite reasonably priced.)
For more information, see Dr. Newport’s website. Sadly, you will not find any information on ketones, or the use of coconut oil or MCT oil, on the Alzheimer’s Association website.
Coconut oil is not the only natural product that has the potential to turn Alzheimer’s around. We will cover some other ones, and drug industry efforts to steal some of them, in a future issue.

  1. This is certainly great news. I cannot believe that the Alzheimer’s Association website will not promote this! What is wrong with them?

    1. All those associations (cancer, heart, diabetes, MS, ALS, etc.) are only interested in keeping the cure off in some not-too-distant future. It is amazing that so many otherwise intelligent people, including one of my best friends, are fooled by these scams. These associations divert billions of dollars and untold energy that could be used for positive results. Join the Life Extension Foundation (lef.org) if you want to get some real bang for your buck and improve your health and that of those around you.

    2. What do you mean what is wrong with them? Its so natural in this world nowadays that numbers in money is ultimate priority than human health, education, humankind development etc etc.
”The cost of treating it is estimated at $148 billion.”
And thats a GREAT news for drug companies. Its the concept of capitalistic companies, where profit is the nr 1 priority. Im talking no BS, golden skeleton is always on the table.
So being sick is relevant for profit. Or just worrying about everything around you makes also profit, by buying things you don’t need for money you don’t really have ^_^

    3. >> What is wrong with them?>>
MONEY MONEY MONEY. It’s all about money, not about our health. If a cure for cancer was found tomorrow do you think we would ever see it?

    4. RE:
“I cannot believe that the Alzheimer’s Association website will not promote this! What is wrong with them?”
C’mon now, is that just a rhetorical question?
They won’t promote coconut oil for the same reason the FDA refuses to recognize, despite mountains of scientific evidence that concludes aspartame is poisonous.
It’s all about the money – evil, greedy bastards raking in obscene profits, indifferent to human suffering.

      1. Its not just about money,..its about paradigms…why do u suppose the Association tests dangeous drugs? because thats the way ther science goes and has for centuries. They detest herbs, vitamins, and things like coconut oil, as not being hi tech super science.

    5. That’s because they are corporations in disguise…..
Do you know how much money they make through charity and government …..and they don’t really promote prevention or curing yourself with nutrition.
      only a patentable ‘cure’.

    6. associations like the Alzherimers associartion are linked to orthodox medicine and Big Pharma. These groups are leading the charge against alternative medical ideas.Dont expect them to promote coconut oil in Alzherimers….Its time people woke up to the nature of these associations

    1. How much should one take each day and how to you suggest using it? Can you use like butter on bread or vegetables?

      1. Yes easily, it’s used as any oil or butter, it’s firm at room temperature and liquid when it heats up.
Try srcambled eggs with using a table spoon of coconut butter, they taste delicious.
You can use coconut butter for all the things you would have used butter or olive for, you can combine olive and coconut oils, coconut oil has a higher heating degree, is naturally preserved and does not need refrigeration.
It is a fabulous flavor addition to your palate, especially when you buy the raw and or gently processed varieties from NUTIVA, who grow their organically in the tropics.
I use it on bread as a spread, love the texture – very smooth and the flavor.
To start, you can go to the health food store and find some there, make sure it’s not the ‘refined’ ones as all the flavor has been taken out.
for the best price I shop at http://www.vitacost.com just put in coconut butter to find the options.

  2. Thank you for this info–I’m going to share it with my Public Speaking students.
I wish the allopathics and the homeopathics would marry their philosophies and treatments to benefit humankind.

    1. ‘I wish the allopathics and the homeopathics would marry their philosophies and treatments to benefit humankind.’
isnt that a bit nairve? The allopaths tried to destroy homeopathy…and what do u plan to take from them and marry to Homeopathy? They prefer toxic chemicals..as their mainstay.

  3. Alzheimers and the rest of health issues listed in this article are from being Celiac…can’t have dairy/gluten(oats/barley/wheat/rye)….it was the lack of gluten, not the coconut oil that may have changed him. Coconut oil/flax seed oil, olive oil, heated oils, hydrogenated/transfat, saturated fat, hurt me…I have MS, but the Celiac diet (no dairy/gluten/sugar), LDN, Vit B12 shot, thyroid medicine, Vit D3, HCl and enzymes with food, vitamins/good oils helped to rebuild my body/brain.I also had to remove heavy metals with EDTA/DMPS IV chelation since my liver was not cleaning them out right.

  4. Blood tests/biposies to diagnose Celiac may not work and doctors may not be trained in it. LDN helps to heal the gut lining due to gluten problems…but other drugs don’t fix a body…just bandaide it. Most Alzheimer’s people maybe Celiac, but the testing may not help to show this.

    1. Sounds like you’ve been through a lot, and done a lot of research. Was it trial and error that developed your regimen?

  5. This is such an amazing article! Coconut Oil with a healthy diet can be a real lifesaver as you have so aptly expressed here. It is great to to see this information being presented, as it is truthful. Too many of our health care initiatives are to create a profit, and not to find the solution. It is an easy thing for us all to do, beat the system by staying healthy, happy and feeling young.

  6. I USE COCONUT OIL ALL THE TIME. WHENEVER I FRY SOMETHING AND ACCORDING TO GARY NULL’S INSTRUCTIONS I PUT TWO TEASPOONS IN MY PROTEIN DRINK IN THE MORNING.
THANK YOU FOR RE-INFORCING MY KNOWLEDGE OF THIS WONDERFUL OIL.
    JOAN YAKIMIK

  7. Thank You We try to do most things naturally but everything is full of toxins from the air. The toxins that are causing the epidemic.I will send this to all I know. Most I know are on to this corporate game now.

  8. I wish you would put a facebook link on these articles. THis is one I would like to post.

  9. Thank you for spreading the word on this. Incredibly valuable information and story!

  10. Hello, Thanks for the fascinating article on coconut oil and Alzheimer’s. My mother passed two years ago at 100 1/2 years old of age. At around the age of 97 years old she began having trouble remembering things so some meddling health care type who was in charge of her home health aids pressured me to allow him to send an Alzheimer’s Team to get involved in her problem—in our opinion, a most frightening development—So I agreed to take her to a neurologist instead, who said she didn’t have to test her because she was sure my mother had Alzheimer’s so she prescribed Aricept. What a nightmare that was for my poor mother! Within an hour of taking it she was in great despair. She said she wanted to die. I told her it was the medicine and promised her she would never have to take that awful stuff again. We found Dr. Stephen Sinatra and I bought L-carnitine and alpha lipoic acid which helped tremendously. She began to read books again. This notion of pumping all kinds of prescriptions into the elderly is insane (but ever so profitable). I purchased some “toasted” almond oil (didn’t read the label well enough) but am not sure it it would be beneficial at all. I want to ask if you know whether toasting coconut oil depletes it of its healthy properties. God bless you for all you do, Elaine Tirrell

  11. I thank you for this info. My mother has alzheimer’s disease and I have been researching and using natural solutions instead of medicines. I have recently started using virgin coconut oil and will start her immediately. Makes perfect sense, nothing to lose, everything to gain!

  12. I HAVE USED COCONUT OIL FOR MANY YEARS. MY FRIENDS FROM THE NATION OF INDIA TAUGHT ME ABOUT VARIOUS INDIA SPICIES. INDIA HAS PRACTICED PREVENTIVE MEDICINE FOR CENTRIES.

  13. Thank you for this data! I knew coconut oil was wonderful, but it keeps getting better! Does coconut milk also produce these effects?

  14. I have been “worried” for quite some time that people are drastically cutting out their fat consumption and believing that all saturated fats are not to be eaten (they don’t know the benefits of coconut oil and olive oil, for instance). Personally, when I went on a very low fat diet, I did not feel good and I was always hungry. Glad also that you mention the importance of using organic coconut and palm oil. Thanks for sending this article along. I already use coconut oil for all my sauteing, etc., and recommend it to my friends. It takes a while for people to digest–the information, that is. : )

  15. This is wonderful news! I have a dear friend who is in the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s. I will pass this on to her family.
I have really enjoyed your newsletter. Thank you.

  16. “Sadly, you will not find any information on ketones, or the use of coconut oil or MCT oil, on the Alzheimer’s Association website.”
What does this tell us folks? A LOT!
My hat is off to Doctor Newport. What a breakthrough! You would think HHS would be screaming this excellent news from the roof tops. No folks it is just us and some good doctors like Doctor Newport AGAINST the “Medical Establishment.
If you want to avoid Alzheimer’s
“According to Dr Shyh-Ching Lo, senior researcher at The Armed Forces Institute of Pathology and one of America’s top mycoplasma researchers, this disease agent causes many illnesses including AIDS, cancer, chronic fatigue syndrome, Crohn’s colitis, Type I diabetes, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Wegener’s disease and collagen-vascular diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and Alzheimer’s. I have all the official documents to prove that mycoplasma is the disease agent in chronic fatigue syndrome/fibromyalgia as well as in AIDS, multiple sclerosis and many other illnesses.” Donald W. Scott MA
“The idea that psychiatric or neurological “diseases” like depression. anxiety, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease and dementia can be effectively treated not by administering psychoactive medications; but by altering dietary and lifestyle influences and repairing the body’s systems, which affect the entire Body-Mind system in which the brain functions. is resisted by conventional psychiatry and neurology.” Doctor Mark Hyman MD
“Vaccination may inflame your brain for as long as TWO YEARS after you get the vaccination.” Doctor Russell Blaylock MD
“In a study involving more than 100 volunteers aged 61 to 87; individuals with lower vitamin B12 levels at the start of the study had a greater decrease in brain volume. Those with the lowest B12 levels had a six fold greater rate of brain volume loss compared with those who had the highest levels. However, none of the participants were actually deficient in vitamin B12 — they just had low levels within a normal range.” Neurology 2008; 71: 826-832
”Researchers from Oxford University and the University of Oslo report an association between decreased levels of vitamin B12 and a decline in brain volume. Reduced brain volume, or brain atrophy, has been associated with Alzheimer’s disease, and is used as a marker of the disease’s progression.” Neurology® September 9, 2008
“When vegetable oils are heated they form a compound called HNE which attacks your arteries, nerves and eye tissue like sulfuric acid etches glass. It’s been implicated in herding of the arteries, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s Huntington’s and liver disease as well as macular degeneration.” Doctor David G. Williams
“The fluoride/aluminum association is of particular importance as it relates to Alzheimer’s Disease. Aluminum by itself is not readily absorbed by the body. However, in the presence of fluoride ions, the fluoride ions combine with the aluminum to form aluminum fluoride, which is absorbed by the body. In the body, the aluminum eventually combines with oxygen to form aluminum oxide or alumina (53). Alumina is the compound of aluminum that is found in the brains of Alzheimer’s disease.” Ronsivalli, LJ, “Addenda to Fluoridation of Public Water Supplies”, Note I don’t think things can be clearer than this.
“A common cause of memory loss is insufficient supply of necessary nutrients to the brain. If the blood is “thick” with cholesterol and triglycerides, the amount of nutrient-rich blood that can pass through the blood brain barrier decreases. Malnourishment of the brain can occur, especially if the condition is chronic in nature. Deficiencies in amino acids and B vitamins, especially Vitamins B6 and B12, are other modifiable causes of dementia. Deficiency of Vitamin B12 produces pseudo-AD symptoms. 25% of people over age 60 – 69 and 40% of people over age 80 are deficient in Vitamin B12, since older people produce insufficient intrinsic factor, a substance necessary for the absorption of Vitamin B12 from the intestines. No one should accept a diagnosis of AD without first undergoing a trial of intensive nutritional therapy, especially Vitamin B12 injections.” Doctor Michael Lam MD
“Lack of Physical Activity: People who are aerobically fit tend to suffer less cognitive decline with normal aging and have less chances of developing AD. When Fred Gage of the Salk Institute for Biological Studies in La Jolla, California, allowed mice to run at will – about five kilometers a day, they generated many more neurons in their hippocampus area compared to their sedentary counterparts. A well-balanced exercise program is the key to optimum mental health While most people think of exercise as a way to reduce body weight , exercise does much more, including reducing insulin resistance and impotence.” Doctor Michael Lam MD
“Alzheimer’s disease was more than twice as common among the women with the highest levels of homocysteine than among those with the lowest, and the risk for any kind of dementia was 70 per cent higher. These days, we in our clinical practice use homocysteine analyses mainly for assessment of vitamin status. However, our results mean that we could use the very same analysis for assessment of individual’s risk profile for dementia development. This opens the possibility for future preventive treatment at a very early stage.” Doctor Dimitri Zylberstein University of Gothenburg
MERCURY as in Flu Shots et al
“Seven of the characteristic markers that we look for to distinguish Alzheimer’s disease can be produced in normal brain tissues, or cultures of neurons, by the addition of extremely low levels of mercury.” Doctor Boyd Haley, Professor, Chair Chem Dept, UK
“We have found that clinically normal individuals aged 60-65 who receive influenza vaccine three or four times during a five-year period, will five years later have an incidence of Alzheimer’s disease 10-fold greater than age-matched individuals who did not receive it.” H. Hugh Fudenburg, MD
As my 70 year old grandmother told my 75 year old grandfather. “There is no fool like an old fool.” Your average “flu shot” contains 25 micrograms of mercury. IMO enough to addle the brains of dozens of us potential “old fools”. In 1980 15% of seniors received the flu needle (See Needle Protocol) this year 85% of us are “old fools” there has been NO DECREASE in hospitalizations for the flu or pneumonia flu complications. The rate of Alzheimer’s has soared.

  17. My 90 yr old Mother just died a horrible death from Alzheimer’s. She was in a state of confusion, did not know who she was, stopped eating or drinking and finally stopped walking.
With reluctance I placed her in a specialzed unit Nursing home for Alzheimer’s patients because I could no longer take care of her.
She lost down to 51 lbs at her death, and although she was 90 I feel the poisons being put in our water (flourides), and chemicals in our foods is obviously what is causing this dreaded disease.
After much research I have found studies who point to giving loading doses of vitamins B6, and
B 12. It is now suspected that the plaque on the brain is not causing the problem but we are still early in the research stages.
If Coconut Oil will help and possibly cure this disease that would be a blessing.
Keep up the good work Alliance. I am proud to be a member and love your work!!

  18. This is great news thier is a lot of people this will help out there and I have certainl begun to worry about this seeing others haveing these problems at and earlier than my age I would really like to see more alternative treatments in our health care system I believe we would have much better health progress at much reduced cost I get so sick off wwhat is being pushed on us by big pharma and the FDA I believe It willonly happen as Dr.’s get tired and fed up with not helping people but killing them .THANKs for the Info. and for the oppurtunity. again THANKs

  19. I love coconut oil and have been using it for years. thank you for this great aticle, this will help many people. Good Job!
    Todd

  20. This is wonderful news…. I have lost extended family and a number of friends to this dreaded disease….. I am passing this on to everyone I can think of who might be interested.. HB

    1. I am 67 year old and take 600 mg of Ubiquinone (Coenzyme Q10) and 400 mg of Ubiquinol per day. This gives Oxygen to every cell in the body through the Mitochondrial system. Learn as much as you can and if you take Statin drugs you MUST take minimum 200 mg of Ubiquinone and 200 mg of Ubiquinol. Statin drugs totally eliminate Co Q10 from your body. Without Co Q10 your body starts dying. Pete Mare

  21. IT WOULD BE NICE if you mentioned the brand of coconut oil or at least given us a hint ie WHICH chain sells it.

    1. Check in any natural foods store, look for extra-virgin cocnut oil, should run about $7 a pint, cheap if it saves your mind.

      1. Nutiva Coconut Oil is sold on Amazon.com It is Organic and Cold pressed. It is solid white and texture is hard. At 76 degrees and above it turns to a clear liquid oil. The same way it flows through your blood stream. Pete Mare

  22. My friend in South Africa is giving her mom 200 mg of Ubiquinol with each meal since December and it has improved her physical condition from not being able to eat. Barely able to walk with a walker. To being able to eat everything within one week and eliminating the walker after 3 weeks to getting rid of her nappies, (diapers) by the end of February. Ubiquinol is the reduced form of Ubiquinone, CoEnzymeQ10. There is no overdose. We are born with it and it slows down production in our bodies at age 25 due to a 300,000 year old genetic fault. Everyone should take a combination of Ubiquinone & Ubiquinol. It is the common sense thing to do. Pete Mare

  23. I was in my Doctors office and he noticed my tremors and head shake and said you have parkinsons and they have drugs to take care of that but just having ended a long fight with Septic Arthritis, drugs were the last thing I ever wanted to put in my mouth again sooooo I’m super delighted to have recieved this article and am rushing to get some cocnut oil 🙂 right now. DGT

  24. Great article – thank you. Dr. Fife – author of the Coconut Cures has done extensive research also………but MORE the better. Coconut in general is Anti-fungal & anti-microbal. It is Extremely important for people with Fungal Conditions…………expecially Valley Fever Fungus to utilize Coconut in many forms. I not only sell Coconut Oil in my Practice – but also Coconut Water @ “My COST” so people who suffer with Valley Fever – can AFFORD to get better – Quicker!!!
We know all Funguses – but especially Valley Fever Fungus goes to the Brain. Keep up all your great information!!!!!!!

  25. I really enjoyed this real person testimony of how a product I use almost daily helped to reverse a disease commonly thought of as incurable! Thank-you and thank-you again! I posted this story on Face Book!
Hopefully it may encourage those who are showing signs or see this in family members!!

  26. Very interesting. Ibelieve I am experiencing onset dementiaand wouldlike toknow the supplier of the non-hydrogenated oil.

  27. I should have put this in the last comment. Dr. Jonathon Wright MD also claims that Lithium Aspartate and ithium orotate will pretty much do the same as coconut oil.

  28. Interesting. Having worked for the Alzheimer’s Association, I know that they are very conservative about what they endorse and it would likely be only after scientific double blind studies. So if you are open to other less proven but possibly helpful things, you need ot search places like this

  29. Thanks! I have a neighbor whose husband is in the early stages of Alzheimers, and this might just be the thing to help.
I have always been a believe in complementary and alternative medicine and things natural. As a matter of fact, I am currently on a regimen of supplements (post breast cancer) to keep it from returning.
I keep organic coconut oil on hand (I am sure to purchase it in glass jars, rather than plastic ones) because I love the taste. I also use it on my skin and hair. 🙂

  30. This is amazing. I always felt there was more help availabvle than just medicine. I will pass this very important information on to all others I know.
    Thank you for sharing

  31. THank you very much for the information. I will share it with others with a pation. Continue your good deeds and I will do my part. God bless you all.
    Sincerely
    Haig

  32. If coconut oil could work on Alzheimer’s, WOW!! That would be amazingly great. It wouldn’t hurt people to try it. That’s the JOY of natural. It doesn’t hurt anything to try it. What have you got to loose in this case; only your mind.

  33. This is wonderful news, especially since my friend just gave me a bottle of organic virgin olive oil to help her get used up before the expiration date. What a gift from God. Natural, natural, natural. The only way to go. I have long been a natural health practitioner and had taken coconut oil a couple of years ago and just never continued to buy it. That will change. It will be a regular part of my staples for the kitchen from now on. As you speak of newborns, I had also read that the ingredients in coconut oil simulates that of mother’s milk. Makes sense to me. Not to mention the benefits it has for skin, hair, etc. Thanks so much for sharing this article.

  34. Yesssss…
I’m so happy to read something like this. Kicking ass to drug monsters companies.

  35. Brilliant news! Thank you so much for sharing, as always!! I’ve turned 53, and am now post-menopause, 2-yrs. My memory is no longer to be relied upon. It’s been making me crazy… I never in my life ever, ever had to write anything down. I even had colleagues who got cranky with me, saying “You can’t remember that!.” But now – my fiance says, “Your friends all told me how brilliant you are.” And all I can say is that I was, I used to be. But Menopause has kicked my butt. But, after reading this I’ll start taking coconut oil – non-trans, of course! I already drink coconut milk, and take extra vE everyday. Never even thought of coconut milk.
And, so I don’t have to send another ‘reply’… I am literally OVER the MOON regarding Atty Emord’s settlement… HUGE, HUGE!! Nice, nice job!!! Thank you so much for being there – for all of us!
    Sincerely,
    Barbara A. McCarthy

    1. Raw whey and Coconut oil super-permeate blood brain barrier providing brain vital

      1. I have been using a top grade Coconut Oil now for the last 2 years, I got rid of all the Clear Cooking oils that you purchase in the supermarkets, and I recently threw out all my Teflon based Auminium cooking utensils and changed to Stainless Steel, my biggest problem is how to introduce a way cheap way of producing clean drinking water from the mains, as this is a nightmare that I live with every day, and the maze of what is on offer for to improve my drinking water is ridiculas as well as expensive, and then of course “Food” is also a problem, and especially good clean meat

        1. Anthony, I’ve been drinking Kangen water and it has made a tremendous difference for my wife and I, not to mention our friends who have switched to Kangen water for hydration. Check out the info on http://www.KangenWaterWorld.info and let me know if you want help getting your own Kangen machine.

        2. Hi Anthony,
Great job in getting rid of all the aluminium and changing to Coconut Oil. I suggest you check out Distllation as a solution to your quest for pure water. The LifeMist distiller is the Gold Standard of water purification – unlike filters and RO, distillation provides consistent pure water regardless of the source water. The neutral Ph brings the body into balance. The purity of the water assists the body in a natural detox. It’s truly a cornerstone to optimal health. My family and I have all experienced such superior results, check it out at http://www.lifemist.com and http://www.waterdistillersnw.com for more info. Let me know if you would like to discuss this further, Thank you! and Best of Health!

          1. DON’T DRINK DISTILLED WATER. It is so “soft” it dissolves out the minerals in your system. Canadian research showed 30 years ago that soft water wells should have dolomite limestone added to reduce heart problems.
To improve the PH balance of your body eat more alkaline foods like fruit and vegetables. Grains are acidic. There are charts which will show the PH of foods, determined by burning them to ash and measuring the acidity of the ash, the same residue left after digestion.

    2. Dear fellow subscriber, as a clinical nutritionist may I respectfully submit to you that your problems with memory are as a result of 2 conditions; Acetaldehyde toxicity and low Thyroid function (Hypothyroidism). Based on a 4,000 person study in the USA, at the end of a three year period, 96% of those people were found to be Iodine deficient. Google Acetaldehyde toxicity, also known as Candida Syndrome, and see its overwhelming relationship to memory loss, brain fog, ADD, lethargy, etc. and other Dementia like symptoms. If you have low thyroid function as well, you are not making enough stomach acid to properly digest the food you are eating and thereby unable to extract the proper nutrition from the food to produce the necessary amino acids to properly maintain brain function. Please look at the sites “iodine4health.com,” “naturalthyroidchioces.com,” “1-thyroid.com” and “stopthethyroidmadness.com” to learn more about how the Thyroid controls EVERY function, directly or indirectly, in your body. And Iodine is the Thyroid’s food if you will. Thyroid Hormone can NOT be made without Tyrosine and Iodine (the T in T4 and T3 stands for Tyrosine and the 4 and 3 are the number of Iodine molecules that are attached to the Tyrosine rings. It is the Tyrosine that allows the Iodine to attach to the some 75 trillion cell receptor sites. I can absolutely assure you that if you learn about these things I’ve mentioned you will live a completely disease free life and never ever need prescription drugs from the real “Drug Czars”, the pharmaceutical companies.

      1. I’ve looked at many of the sites you mention but am at a loss on what to do when you have no thyroid. I had a thyroidectomy many years ago and have been on various doses of synthyroid or levothyroxine. I have asked my endocrinologists if I could try armour-thyroid and they have told me that the synthetic versions are much better. I also have a difficult time with my doctors because they always want to change my dosages. I know I need thyroid replacement but would like to find a natural alternative that will be better for me long term and dislike being at the mercy of doctors who like to change my dosages.

        1. I have hypothyroidism. The only 2 endochrinologists in this town told me on the phone before I even saw them that they don’t prescribe natural thyroid hormone (armour). I have read how most patients feel better taking the natural hormone. I just wanted to try it and see if it did for me. Does anybody know if the AMA is against this and why? I just thought it must be a AMA ‘policy’ thing if no endochrinologist will prescibe something that makes most patients feel better.

          1. Armour has a heavy proportion of T3, which is unhealthy. The synthetics such as T4 Synthroid and T3 Cytomel are bioidentical and the proportions can be controlled. While is makes sense to gravitate to a more natural product and certainly not give pharmaceutical companies business, sometimes it makes sense to. Forest Labs makes Armour and the same company makes T4 and T3.

    3. Perimenopause and menopause trashed what little memory I had. Since then, I have switched to organic everything, grass-fed meat, and stopped eating both commercially processed foods and wheat or anything with wheat in it. My memory is back and better than the past several decades. Looking back, going wheat-free would have helped long ago. Frankly, I don’t expect good info from the usual tools of big pharma and big agra. When you recover, people ask you what you did. The word gets out if slowly. Those who believe in conventional western medicine with unquestioning devotion may never come around. You can lead a horse to water, as the saying goes. Live long and prosper.

      1. Jill-
So true. Thanks for posting. Climbing this long and arduous mountain now. The turnaround is slow but certain as any back-sliding confirms, without fail. Best to you ; )

    4. I really have no biz telling you anything but there is something that I know and that is “the milk is not good for you to drink too often”..Ask any Thai person and they will tell you. The oil is good the water or juice is good but the milk made from the meat is not. Check this out for yourself. Sorry to butt in but I just had to tell you.

      1. I am a new coconut oil user, purchased “Spectrum Coconut Oil ” from Whole Foods, am a little worried as this is solid oil!
        Found good information on: http://www.cookycoconuts.com/coconutnutrition.html
        After reading your post, I think you were trying to tell us which Coconut Oil to purchase. the above website cleared it up for me. Below is an exerpt from that website;
        QUOTE
High-quality coconut oil is a completely different product and is truly the healthiest oil you can consume. It is a much safer alternative to other popular oils such as canola oil, where most of its omega-3s are transformed into trans-fats during the deodorization process, which increases the dangers of chronic diseases.
Because of these drastic variations, my team and I here researched coconut oil extensively until we found the ideal source. I now highly recommend and offer you what is clearly the premier brand of virgin coconut oil in the United States, Tropical Traditions. This virgin coconut oil is not only certified organic, but it also met all our other requirements, including no GMO ingredients, bleaching, deodorizing, refining or hydrogenation. Tropical Traditions also uses fresh coconuts (not “copra” or dried coconuts like most oils) that come from a rural region of the Philippines untainted by urban pollution.
If you do choose another brand of coconut oil, please be sure that it meets these requirements. (How Coconut Oil Works For Thyroid) End of QUOTE

  36. coconut oil is amazing . an holistic doctor told me to take it internally and use externally/internally female wise. it made an incredible difference in my body atter menopause. also it is good for weight loss.

    1. Now what was this article about again? Oh yes, coconut oil! 🙂 I use coconut oil on my skin and it is incredible. Use it as a night cream and you will see the difference immediately when you wake up. I order the pure coconut oil from Fiji, but I’m sure you can use any brand just so long as it is pure coconut oil. I’m in my 40’s and people think I’m 30 something. I also alkaline my body, disease cannot grow in a alkaline environment, period. (research it) and I train every day. Hope this helps you to look and feel young! Thanks for the article, I think I’ll start eating this stuff when I apply it to my face!

    2. Can you provide more detail as to how your holistic doctor suggested that you use coconut oil?
How much to take internally? Was it used as a vaginal lubricant? What use does it have female wise?
      Thank you.

  37. NATURE PROVIDES HELP AND MANY CURES IF ONE CAN EXTRACT THE RIGHT INFORMATION.
MANY THANKS FOR THIS ARTICLE. i WILL CERTAINLY PASS IT ON.

    1. My grandmother, Juliana Colipapa, (a manghihilot and mananabang) used the traditional knowledge of our people in Catmon, Cebu to treat her patients.
A manghihilot is a traditional healer in the Philippines who used massage to treat sprains, fevers and dislocations.
A mananabang does the work of a midwife doing prenatal care and delivering babies as well as that of a pediatrician – treating infants and children.
In reality her work was a General Practitioner. She used her knowledge of Philippine fruits and herbs including coconut oil in her more than 80 years of private practice.
Alzheimer’s disease – she just makes the patients eat coconut meat from young and matured coconuts.
This was way back in the early 1900’s until her death in the ’80’s.
For us Filipinos, to minimize health costs, we have to learn to look back to our past and revive the healing practices that existed then.
Fortunately I grew up with my grandmother during and learned some of what she used to treat her patients.

  38. Wonderful article! I use coconut oil everyday. I put a heaping teaspoon in my morning mocha. I put it in smoothies, tea, and soups. I cook with it whenever possible. I buy organic, virgin coconut oil at my local supermarket in the health food section for $10. I will use it for the rest of my life. http://www.coconutoil.com has lots of good information for those who want to learn more.

    1. I just wanted to share that I’ve found a great place to purchase extra virgin coconut oil at a great price.
The website is http://www.swansonhealth.com They have their own name brand oil, it’s extra virgin, and organic and it’s about $7 for 16 oz..

  39. My husband is experiencing cognitive decline following 8 years of statin (cholesterol lowering) drugs. There were numerous side effects. Most dramatic was TGA (transient global amnesia). That’s when he stopped Lipitor 7 years ago. Memory improved for a couple of years, then started to decline again. Interesting twist of fate that I never came across Dr Newport while I was researching my husband’s memory loss. We lived in Spring Hill for 11 years.

    1. Any person who uses statin drugs, MUST, also take Coenzyme Q10. Statin drugs eliminate Coenzyme Q10 from the body. CoEnzyme Q10 is Ubiquinone. Ubiquinone in the Human body converts Ubiquinone into Ubiquinol through the mitochondrial system to give Oxygen to every cell in the body. In 2006 the Kaneka Co of Japan formulated Ubiquinol to be stable in an oil base gel with best results if the oil was Coconut Oil or Soy oil. Blue Bonnet supplements sell Ubiquinol with Coconut Oil. Swanson Vitamins uses a medium chain triglyceride. As long as you purchase Ubiquinol that is from Kaneka approved it is safe. Ubiquinone is produced in Humans until age 25, then a 300,000 year old genetic defect slows down the production and the aging process begins.
There is no overdose of the ammount you can take. It is natural, not a chemical from Big Pharma. The Human immune system will work at 100% with Oxygen in every cell. No more getting tired and needing a nap. Ask the computer if Cancer can live in a Cell that has Oxygen. The answer is no.
EVERYONE READING THIS SHOULD TAKE A MINIMUM 200 MG Ubiquinone & 200 MG Ubiquinol per day.. Learn as much as you can on the Mitochondrial System and CoenzymeQ10. In 2007 Nodules in my lungs were eliminated with 200 mg of Ubiquinone per day for 3 months because the Chief Medical Researcher in China told his daughter who is our Acupuncturist’s secretary that he personally witnessed 100% cure of mice with lung cancer in the early 90’s. Since then my wife & I have been telling everyone of this truth. I have been given the gift of life. I cannot keep this gift to myself. I have to share it with everyone. Pete Mare

  40. I have taken coconut oil. It is wonderfulI. However, I stop taking it, but after reading this article I am going to start back taking it tomorrow. I take the Spectrum organic coconut oil. Thanks for this God sent information.

  41. Thanks for your wonderful information! Organic Coconut Oill is available at many online websites, such as Vitacost.com & Swanson.com at very low prices. Swanson also has Organic Coconut Oil capsules, which I take every morning! Topically putting the oil on my skin
    is wonderful too!
Peace, Love, Joy & Tons of Blessings,
    Rajeanne

  42. Actually all the natural remedies would put Big Pharma out of business faster than anything imaginable. Thats because their all a huge fraudulent racket set up for profits. We need to destroy the whole concept of patent, which rewards people for modifying nature.

    1. thats why Big Pharma ha gotten the EU to outlaw herbal medicine, with the Codex Alimentarius

  43. While coconut oil is certainly a good thing, even more so is eliminating coffee, soda pop, and alcohol. Most, if not all alzheimer’s and Lou Gherigs patients are drinking things that cause extreme acidity in the body, and they do not drink restructured alkaline water. Think about it…the brain is 90% water. If it is malfunctioning, it needs moisture. How simple can it get??? Ask anyone who has these kinds of health issues to see what they are drinking and I would be willing to bet that in every instance, they are not following the above very simple remedy to a very complex problem.

  44. Excellent info! Have been using coconut ol in cooking (sir fry, eggs, bison burgers, drizzle on steaeded veggies etc) for several years. Began using after diagnosed with osteoarthritis. Also influenced by GARY NULL (my health GURU) about using GOOD OILS in cooking.

  45. FIRST THANK YOU FOR YOU WONDERFUL INFORMATION.
AND I HOPE YOUR HUSBAND IS FEELING BETTER.
PLEASE CAN I ASK YOU HOW MUCH OIL OR OIL PILLS THAT YOUR HUSBAND WAS TAKING A DAY.
I WANT TO START MY MOM ON THIS, AGAIN, THANK YOU.
    JOHN

Coconut oil, a natural MCT, is well known in the low carb community. Most use it everyday. Many just swallow a big ol’ spoonful at a time. I use it for sauteing veggies and in my daily coffee. The research behind the benefits of coconut is vast. During the early days, coconut oil was an important part of traditional medications. People used herbs and parts of certain trees. Coconut oil concoctions applied directly to wounds or swollen areas provided quick healing.
Approximately 50% of the fatty acids in coconut fat are lauric acid. Lauric acid is a medium chain fatty acid, which has the additional beneficial function of being formed into monolaurin in the human or animal body. Monolaurin is the antiviral, antibacterial, and antiprotozoal monoglyceride used by the human or animal to destroy lipid-coated viruses such as HIV, herpes, cytomegalovirus, influenza, various pathogenic bacteria, including listeria monocytogenes and helicobacter pylori, and protozoa such as giardia lamblia. Some studies have also shown some antimicrobial effects of the free lauric acid. Also, approximately 6-7% of the fatty acids in coconut fat are capric acid. Capric acid is another medium chain fatty acid, which has a similar beneficial function when it is formed into monocaprin in the human or animal body. Monocaprin has also been shown to have antiviral effects against HIV and is being tested for antiviral effects against herpes simplex and antibacterial effects against chlamydia and other sexually transmitted bacteria.

  47. Alzheimer’s Association’s ignorance is understandable. Trust the mainstream and those of status. Depend on corporate funds and sponsorship. Fear thise other intelligent researchers who in their grassroots way attempt to awaken those who are suffering.

  48. Thank you Dr,God bless what you done and i really appreciate that.
I’m from Indonesia and also i’m a coconut former and i makes Virgin Organic Coconut oil.
I get your website from my friend his name Owen Chamberlin, E-mail : [email protected]

  49. Coconut trees absorb radioactive cesium, and since the USA and other countries conducted so much nuclear weapons testing in the areas where these trees grow, radioactive cesium contamination in coconut products is fortunately not uncommon. It is so bad in the Bikini Atoll areas that the local population cannot even live there anymore, as consumption of local coconut products caused their bodies to become contaminated with radioactive cesium. Before everybody runs out to consume more coconut products, we need to first demand they are tested free of any radioactive compounds, including cesium.

  50. There is some indirect evidence that coconut oil might work at least in part by promoting absorption and utilisation of copper. There is a large literature on copper deficiency in Alzheimer’s. But a recent trial of copper supplementation failed, possibly because utilisation of copper needs manganese, and the patients were even more deficient for manganese than for copper. White flour has had nearly all its manganese removed, as well as most of its copper.
New research has confirmed excess iron and zinc cause the damage in Alzheimer’s:
    http://www.elements4health.com/study-explores-alzheimers-protein-and-iron-metabolism-link.html
Excess iron raises the requirement for manganese, and excess zinc raises the requirement for copper. Meat is very high in highly-available iron and zinc, and low in copper and manganese. The combination of meat and white flour, eaten in large quantites over a lifetime, is arguably the cause of Alzheimer’s.

    1. “new research has confirmed…….”
      that research is not infallible.
the combination of large quantities of meat and white flour…..is arguably the cause of alzheimers.
      yes, arguably.
but i suppose we need a drug to fix this problem?

  51. I find 0 transfat Coconut Oil in many ordinary supermarkets in the US. I d not find it in much of Mexico, which is a shame.
By the way, my user name is well known in many parts of the Web, strange as it is.

  52. Not necessarily wanting to bring politics into this, but as a long-term Republican it is disgraceful that RINO”s Kay Hutchinson and John McCain both want laws which will place your vitamins and supplements under Federal government control. I personally received an e-mail from Kay on this issue.
I have not communicated with McCain, but I believe it was stated he wanted to require a prescription for vitamins. When you know that studies show the average doctor knows less about nutrition than the average patient, it makes no sense to have to ask them for permission to use vitamins.
    Beware!
You can be sure there is a lobbyist from the pharmaceuticals involved here. The same medical profession which kills over 100,000 people a year (fact) wants to take away our vitamins because of a handful of people who suffer from misuse of supplements.

  53. Here’s something else which would help. The combo of coconut oil and Turmeric could be the perfect Alzheimer’s cocktail!
    http://www.naturalnews.com/029767_turmeric_alzheimers.html
NaturalNews) Nature is full of various herbs and spices that protect against disease and even treat and cure it. And according to Chris Kilham, an ethnobotanist and Fox News’ “Medicine Hunter”, turmeric root — also known in its extract form as curcumin — is one such powerful spice that appears to both prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s disease and even cure it.
“People who develop Alzheimer’s disease get a sticky plaque in the brain called amyloid beta,” explained Kilham to Dr. Manny Alvarez in a recent Fox News interview. Such plaques either develop as a result of Alzheimer’s, or they are the direct cause of it. But either way, they are directly related to the degenerative process.
However studies show that turmeric actually eliminates these plaques, both when they are first starting to form and even during the late stages of their advancement.
“What we have in turmeric is something that appears to inhibit the development of Alzheimer’s disease…and actually help to reduce the occurrence of plaque in the brain if you have it,” noted Kilham. “We know in animal studies, when animals actually have amyloid beta plaque in their brains and they’re given turmeric root…that plaque is reduced.”
Observational studies have also shown that people groups who eat large amounts of turmeric virtually never get Alzheimer’s.
“In countries where people consume a lot of [turmeric], there’s a very low incidence of Alzheimer’s disease,” emphasized Kilham. “In India and Southeast Asia, it’s a rare disease. And [in the U.S.] it’s very, very common.”
According to Kilham, drug companies are hard at work trying to develop drug versions of turmeric, but he recommends eating real turmeric whenever possible, and taking turmeric extract supplements if eating the spice in food is not an option.
“A challenge that we face is that drug companies…can’t patent turmeric root,” he said. “So they will continue to try to develop something else. [But] eating turmeric, eating its extracts…appears to be protective against one of the most horrific and debilitating diseases we know.”

  54. Coconut milk twice daily in my tea.
Classic test – take oral temperature upon arising, take two tablespoons, take temperature 1 and a half hours later, very good for you hypo-thyroids
Politically…….The American Soybean Association has blood on it’s hands, demonizing coconut oil to sell soybean oil, which is a minor poison.

    1. Yes, soybeans are one of the most common GMO crops in the US (over 90 percent of soy is genetically modified) and hexane is used in the soymilk extraction process.

    2. For many years my mother has used coconut oil without knowing all the benefits thereof, She died at age 95. My family has been using canola oil, as my wife thinks it is one of the best among the rest, but on reading up on the tremendous value and benefits of the lowly coconut oil, I will let my wife finish the last bottle of canola oil she recently bought, but it’s back to the life saver, good ol ‘ coconut oil. We will choose the virgin, non-trans fat, etc. version. My wife and I do experience some “senior moments” (early indications of Alzeihmers?), so we will begin the preventive measures ASAP, with the use of this available substance, right here in our backyard!

  55. “How worried should drug companies be about supplements eating into their monopoly profits? A lot—as this story will show.”
Or maybe not so much at all. You aren’t factoring in corporate ownership of government these days. Health supplements have just been outlawed in Europe, and the push is on to do the same here.
So maybe they don’t need to worry much at all – not unless people wake up and take control of their own lives again.

  56. This is but another example of the genius of nature, how about that! A natural, growing in your yard (for those of us in tropical climes) time released, with no side effects “drug”! I am with the ultimate homeopath, Hypocrites, “let your medicine be your food and your food be your medicine”. Cannabis promotes apoptosis which is the programming or death of cells. Cancer is cell growth without normal cellular death so there is another natural cure for cancer.
Best thing to do is watch TV and know that you are getting “programming”, take the info and do the opposite of their programming. My contrarian stance has kept me relatively healthy and modern medicine free for life!

  57. Please everyone, when using this information on the wonderful effects of coconut oil do not forget that you should remove the source of toxicity that caused ALZ and other related diseases. Mercury amalgam or your silver fillings. Genetic predispositions and inibitions such as the APOE 4 protein are the culprit proteins that cannot bind Hg in the brain for waste elimination. Fortunately only 17% of us have only 1 APOE 4 while 7% have two APOE 4 one maternal and one paternal. This has been covered up by the ADA for hundreds of years. Have your Amalgam fillings removed by a Biological Dentist safely and correctly to prevent further damage. Removing the source of the cause will improve the results of the coconut oil and speed the recovery process. Remember “silver” fillings are 50% mercury and newer high copper Amalgams create more mercury vapor to be absorbed into the brain. If you have not seen it the University of Calgary video release tells the whole story about the mercury effect on the brain and no other metal creates this problem. In the Library of Congress you can find the results of my study under the EPA report on Mercury in the Enviroment; specificately stating that 80% of the human load of mercury comes from Amalgam not fish. 243 MG;s a day leak out of a one spill filling [1 gram] with 212 mg going directly into the blood stream right into the brain. Bob

  58. I live with my mother who started to show substantial confusion and meemory loss twelve years ago. I have been doing a number of therapies and supplements over the years. All have helped but I want to leave you with three things in order of importance that I think was most helpful, in the supplement category. 1. Systemic Enzymes. Neprinol is what I use now. 2. GPC, a form of choline. 3. Theanine. Neprinol use as directed, gpc 12000 mg a day and theanine 200 mg in late afternoon (4pm) and 100 in the morning. I belive there are other helath benefits you will see with this. For instance the enzymes improved her kidney function saving her from drugs and her circulation and energy level improved. Do your own research to see the wide range of benefit on the enzymes. Eurpoe has been using sytemic enzyme therapy for decades. Best Wishes Roger

  59. If coconut oil is therapeutic, you think the drug pushers are going to sit by and be happy at healthy people?

  60. Does it apply only to extracted coconut oil or would shredded coconut also be as effective?

  61. It is quite a shame, that the world has reached a level of greed, in which helping people stay healthy is kept at bay because of the almighty dollar. Where has our humanity gone?

  62. If you are interested in learning about the various causes of Alzheimer’s, and other treatments, then a good book is – “Beating Alzheimer’s: A Step Towards Unlocking the Mysteries of Brain Diseases” written by Tom Warren.

  63. W e in Sri Lanka, have been using coconut oil for hundreds of years. We grow coconut and
export it to other countries. Every household uses it for cooking. They also use it externally.
Except in one instance, I have not heard of anyone suffering from Alzheimer`s disease, in
my 80 yrs. Need I say more on the efficacy of this marvelous food item.
    ,

  64. The mainstream medical establishment and big pharma is concerned with making money, not curing anything or keeping people healthy. HOW will they make money if you are cured or just don’t get sick??? There have been natural cures for cancer for decades now as well; not used because they can’t be patented and profited from. Google ‘Budwig Protocol’ and ‘Gerson Therapy’ for some.

  65. Co enzyme Q10 was referred to on a Oct 10 reply, stating that it was essential for those taking a statin drug ( cholesterol lowering) Here is a link to a company that sells ALL NATURAL vitamin and mineral supplements, nutritional products and skin care. lynnsunlimited.usana.com Look under products ; cardiovascular; and read about CoQuinone 30. We MUST take control of our health. It is your greatest gift, next to a healthy soul. God Bless.

  66. Clearly Big Pharma’s CEOs would sell out their own fairy godmothers if they thought it would make them an easy buck. Those same CEOs and their weasel political lapdogs in Washington love to preach about letting the market rule, but they all sing a far different tune when the market (that’s you and me) balk at Big Pharma’s price gouging and go for the vastly less expensive and often superior natural alternatives. Then those CEOs can’t go crying to Washington and the FDA fast enough to fix the market in their favor. I predict that there’ll not be a peep about coconut oil and its healing potential for Alzheimer’s and other brain diseases on CNN or the NY Times now or perhaps ever. Perhaps they’re on the take as well, with literal blood money from all those who’ve suffered and died from the physiological, psychological and financial harm Big Pharma causes on the US citizenry with its greed-centric practices.

  67. I still remember the homemade Donuts where always baked in Coconut Oil. Good Food is the best Medicine……..unfortunately doesn’t make the Drug Industry rich. Good Food makes our brain functioning right …….but who wants this anyway. Only with stupid people you can make money…..

    1. Yes and also movie theater popcorn, until they were told it was (unhealthy). Now I pop my own in coconut oil. I got my 13 yr old neice hooked on it now. I order mine from Dr. Mercola.com.

  68. I read this article with amazement about two weeks ago. It had been forwarded to me by a friend whos mom died just over a year ago due to Alzheimer’s Disease. I have an 87 yo sister who I care for in my home. About 6 years ago she began to demonstrate signs of dementia. Initially, our Family Practice Dr gave her the “10 Question Alzheimer’s Test” which was positive. Of course, we saw several neurologists also. We went from a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s to Parkinson’s Disease with Louis Body Involvment, back to Dementia-Non Alzheimers type. The dementia has been very slow thankfully. She has been at the point when she cannot form words, or sentences resulting in her choosing to be most often quite. I do believe her comprehension is very good, just can’t express. In a week and one half on the Coconut oil both I and an assistant caregiver have noted much more attempting to speak, much brighter affect, much more expressive with her emotions and now is starting to form words which we can understand and the structure of the sentences are getting longer? I don’t just think that this is my, or her imagination. I am certainly sharing this story to anyone who will listen and I am certainly going to continue with the coconut oil. Thank you.

  69. I am a Sri Lankan and coconut milk and oil a common thing for preparing this country’s 90% of the vegitables and other curries.New world’s fast food and canned food full of chemicals due to their process.Even agriculture use vast amount of chemicals for best commertial results causing billions of humans to eat at least few mili grams of these chemicals daily. We Sri lankan population still suriving from many deceases thanks to consuming coconut milk.It has absobing quality of many poisonus particales to human body.Thousands of years our nation was using coconut and still the same. This is not a new news for us.But we thanks to the people who discovered and make it publish to the rest of the world. It is great huminity to save another life.

  70. Hello:
Does anyone have any information or experience regarding coconut oil, nutritional supplements and/or natural protocols for Cortico Basal Degeneration? CBD (or CBGD) is supposedly related to Alzheimers Disease. It occurs when the brain cells in two areas of the brain – the Cortex and the Basal Ganglia – die off. It presents with some of the same symptoms as Parkinson’s Disease. In fact, it has, what they call, “overlapping” symptoms. This leads many doctors to misdiagnose CBD as Parkinson’s Disease. My brother-in-law was told by the doctor that he has 5 – 7 years to live. Any and all information would be greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely,
    DB

    1. Hello,
Maybe you allready found some information, but I was looking for the same and found information at the website:
      http://alzheimers.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/762104261/m/63910335
It is from “Swarfmaker posted april 14 2009”.
He wrote “For anyone who stumbles across this message in a search for information about CBD (a.k.a. CBGD or corticobasal degeneration) please take note that my mother is one case of clinically diagnosed CBD where the supplements cinnamon and coconut oil/MCT oil have arrested the progression”
And I also found information on the website:
      http://www.homeopathyworldcommunity.com/forum/topics/corticobasal-degeneration-cbd?xg_source=activity
The reply of Dr. Dr Rajneesh Kumar Sharma MD(Hom) on December 18, 2010
He writes “Corticobasal degeneration is primarily a Syphilitic miasmatic condition. In this type of degeneration, there is a unique point that its initiation is due to Sycosis which may be in latent form initially. Due to Turmoil in life, at genetic level, the sycosis becomes active and starts fruiting. But due to fundamentally syphilitic trend, the syphilis is aroused due to partial interaction of Psora and both the miasms- Psora and Sycosis are SUPPRESSED while Syphilis becomes predominently active and manifests its full course, often ending in termination of life….
The treatment required is based on antimiasmatic ground. Firstly, we have to SUPPRESS Syphilis so that the degenerations could be immediately stopped. Then the Psora who triggered the Syphilis is to be treated, so that the Exciting cause of Syphilis might be removed. Now the syphilis is spontaneously towards regression. In last, we should treat Sycosis to establish perfact cure. But Remember- The permanent irriversible changes occured in body may not be cured and some deformity may persist even after a cure.”
If you also have some information, please let me know. Because my brother in law have this terrible
      disease.
      Sincerely
      Walther

  71. I’d be interested to know how Mr Newort is doing now that he’s been on the coconut oil for a while. Also,, is he on any other meds or supplements or special diet for the alzheimer’s other than disclosed in the article? We recently had testing done on my DH. He has some dementia – unclear what kind as 2 Dr’s have differing opinions. Now he’s changed health plans at the end of the yr and neither of the original Dr’s is covered. Need a new Neurologist and some testing such as mini mental which neither Dr did much if any of. Just sent him for MRI, EEG, and PET scan. What help is that w/o the cognative and memory tests? All this has happened after a fall that included a skull fracture 3 yrs ago. One DR said vascular dementia, one said alzheimer’s. Any help appreciated very much.

  72. Has anyone heard of coconut oil causing an insulin response? and, thus, one gains weight (fat).

  73. Coconut oil was recommended by our vet for Chloe, a geriatric dog who was snappish, agitated, suddenly peeing inside, and generally unhappy (therefore, us, too).
In fewer than 10 days her sweet demeanor returned nearly 100% of the time and in a full month of use we have had no peeing incidents.
She is an Australian Shepherd weighing 45 pounds. We give approx 1tsp. morning and nigh, in food. It is solid, so can’t really measure, we just chip off a chunk.
We couldn’t be happier, and I believe Chloe would agree. Woof!

  74. Two books which contain some useful info on the causes and treatments of Alzheimer’s are – “Beating Alzheimer’s: A Step Towards Unlocking the Mysteries of Brain Diseases” written by Tom Warren and “Alzheimer’s Challenged & Conquered?” by Louis Blank.

  75. The same beneficial effect from coconut oil can be achieved with the ketogenic diet or a modified Atkins diet. When diet non-compliance is the issue, coconut oil or mct’s will work. We have seen vast improvement in a schizophrenic relative on the oil. A study exists showing complete resolution of schizophrenic symptoms of 17 years after eight days on the ketogenic diet.
It seems the Astrocyte cells in the brain must go faulty in not just Alzheimer’s disease but schizophrenia, MS, Parkinson’s, ALS and Huntington’s Chorea. Ingesting sugar in any significant quantity is something our bodies have not yet evolved to handle. As much as people do not want to hear this, we are more carnivores than omnivores. Our teeth do not decay on a carnivore diet… that is the key.

  76. Was just referred to this site and am amazed at all the info. I was just wondering if anyone knows if coconut oil would benefit one with a brain injury. My mother was involved in a serious car accident last June, resulting in a very serious frontal brain injury. She is doing better but has short term memory issues. She will forget things in the middle of conversations and struggles with remembering recent conversations we had. Just wondering. Other than that, I will try this for my menopause. Oh how frustrating it is to have to write everything down. 🙂

    1. We tried about every alternative therapy out there following our son’s severe traumatic brain injury (15 years ago). Best outcomes: hyperbaric oxygen therapy and sound therapy. Note that Hyperbaric was started over 2 1/2 years following his injury — but made the difference between living independently and not.
      Good luck!

  77. I have been reading with great interest all the comments about coconut oil. Since it helps brain function, has there been any stydies on mental illnes, namely bipolar disorder?

  78. Just wanted to note; How Oil pulling helps with gum disease(periodontal) and sinus problems.

    1. Does anyone know if coconut oil can also help with dementia not just Alzheimers? My darling Mum has just been diagnosed with a form of dementia called Lewy Body. She’s only 65. We are devastated.

      1. My Mom (76) was diagnosed with dementia too. I took her off the statin drug she was on. Within 3 days, the fog started to lift. It seemed that as the cholesterol increased in her body and brain, the better she got. It has been 5 weeks now, and she is almost back to normal. This might explain why the coconut oil is helping–it could just be the cholesterol injection into the system.

        1. can you benefit from coconut oil gel tablets same as with the coconut oil in the jar?

        2. My mother is 92 and has Alzheimer’s disease. I discontinued her Lovastatin a week ago to see if there is any improvement in her memory. I have not as yet seen the dramatic improvement you report but I’m patient. She had been taking this drug for at least several years.

          1. Hi
I have been giving my mom the oil blend for about 6 months and I think that it has stopped the dementia in it’s tracks, but I’m not expecting that her memory is going to get any better, but what I am expecting is that she won’t get worse. This is what the oil is proving, at least the symptoms are gone, because they were the hardest to deal with. Go to alzorganics.com

          2. We know that sertss can affect people in different ways and one of those wayshappens causes increase blood pressure, and very easily dampen your mood with depression.Anxiety problems are becoming more common in the present day. There are numerous herbs for anxietyrelief medication available as treatment, they are proving to be very effective in reducing sertss and anxiety. Anxiety disorders can be effectively cured by using natural remedies.

      2. I am 55 years old. A couple of years ago I noticed that my memory was failing, though I didn’t think much of it. I had scheduled a visit to my parents a few months ago. My husband dropped me off at the airport, as always, and I went inside. Went to my gate and waited for my flight to board. I’m not sure how much time passed, but when i went to the boarding counter, the flight had left two hours prior. My husband called to make sure I had boarded……long story short….I couldn’t remember where I was going. Finally made my flight 2 hours later. i am now on medication (Arocept). and doing fairly well. I’ve been on coconut oil for about a month and a half (approximately). The coconut oil had made an incredible difference. 2 Tablespoons 3 times per day. Life is funny sometimes…I’ve disliked anything coconut my entire life….now it’s my best friend……..

      3. Hi. My mom has Lewy Body Dementia also, since 2002. I give her a coconut oil blend from alzorganics.com. It has worked wonders, as long as I keep giving her the blend all of her symptoms are gone. It took from 1 month to start seeing results and then up to 3 months and we have our mom back. It costs me about 75.00 a month, but it is well spent. You really should try it, we are so happy that our mom enjoyed Christmas and was aware of her surroundings.

        1. Hello arlie from Woody’s Mom (at alzconnected). Thanks for the info you posted there… it lead me to find this website.

  79. I have worked with Alzheimers patients since the early 80’s. I also have a sister, uncle and 2 cousins that have died from Alzheimers, this is exciting news. The SAD (standard american diet) I believe has brought this on. Lo fats, no fats and bad fats has taken a toll on the American people. I just hope that the behind the scenes powers in this country do not stop the importation of coconut oil to America.

    1. There is a huge link between the increase of Alzheimer’s and increased use of nitraites and nitrates in processed foods. Sad thing is, there are other food preservatives available but our government choses not to use them. And in countries that don’t eat the SAD type diet…incidence of Alzheimer’s type diseases is much lower.

  80. My mother-in-law was telling me how she has started using the coconut oil with my father- in law who has Alzheimers and the results that she has had up to this point. She reports that he seems more alert and I have seen him at the kitchen table reading the funnies and working puzzels which all he use to do was sit in his recliner and sleep. He is sleeping better at night. But what impressed me most of all was the report she gave me about his cholesterol test. His numbers so much better. His HDL is now at 45 improved from 25, tryglycerides are below 200 from over 300 and his overall is 185 which is also way down. I went out the day she told me about the labs and purchased some coconut oil for my husband and myself. My cholesterol is borderline and my husband is on medication for both cholesterol and his triglycerides. His triglycerides are over 400 with medication. He is also a type 2 diabetic. I figure the cocout oil will not hurt and therefore am giving it a try.

  81. This is the first I’ve heard about coconut and Alzheimer. I eat coconut once a year maybe but now I’m going to be doing it a lot more. I have been diagnosed with dementia and if this would help it would make me so happy.

    1. You might want to add Turmeric and Ceylon Cinnamon to your supplement regimen as well. Turmeric is a powerful anti-inflammatory and the Ceylon Cinnamon helps stabilize insulin levels. Note that Ceylon cinnamon is NOT the usual cinnamon you find in the grocery stores in the US.

  82. Yes, I also have witnessed several clients whose alzheimers and general health have improved markedly due to consuming fresh coconuts and coconut oil. However, it is essential that the oil be not only organic and virgin (and fresh rather than rancid) but also raw. How may one know if it is raw? It almost always reads “raw” somewhere on the bottle. Furthermore, on the other hand, cooking with coconut oil is particularly deleterious because the fats are transformed from health-giving to the reverse during the chemical process.

    1. Actually, coconut oil has a fairly high smoke point, so it is quit good for cooking. Use that rather than olive oil. I like the products from Tropical Traditions.

  83. I wish this information was available to me a long time ago. My grandmother and her daughter, my mother both had Old Timers disease. It’s a horrible disease and one that affected their life even before it we really accept the reality that there is a problemf. Even around the age of 55 she began showing signs.
Both of them had a problem with having to drink alcohol every night. They didn’t have the superfood our Creator intended them to eat. It was mostly supermarket food. Now on the other hand my Father’s mother was raised on a farm, she even continued vegetable/fruit/flower gardening throughout her life as long as she could and she passed away a few days before her 103rd birthday. She had a brighter outlook on life and she loved making her own bread, putting away for a rainy day etc…she was charitable, loved flower gardening, and appreciated what our Creator gave to her…non GMO seeds

  84. Fractionated coconut oil makes an excellent lubricant for massage and is gentle enough to be used as a facial moisturizer. I wonder if the topical application of coconut oil would have an effect similar to ingesting it.

  85. I would like to know how the coconut oil is used in the preperation of food? What do you put it on?

  86. They say that when the Earth is uninhabitable (there will be many reasons for this in the near future. One of them is THEIR addiction to oil, not the everyday consumer. We have no CHOICE but to use oil. If the government really cared, they would ban all oil-based motors and introduce electric cars or water-fueled cars. But that would kill the oil industry – an industry that kills the Earth! And an industry that causes war! They don’t care, they’re making money!) we will be able to easily terraform Mars over a couple human generations and we’ll be just as good. Don’t they realize that Mars is now a DEAD planet that does NOT support life!? If we can’t get along as a race on our OWN planet, are we really going to be successful Are they just saying these things because they ONLY care about they moneymaking endeavor in their own lifetime? This topic is deeply saddening when you think of the current status, but humans can perform great things when they work together…let us care for Earth..

  87. I read an article in 2oo5 that placed coconut oil in the same category as olive oil. This counters the claim that coconut oil causes cholesterol problems. A nurse-practitioner who is near 80years, has flawless complexion and has the gait of a well-kept 40year-old. She attributes much of these youthful qualities to her use of coconut oil all her life.
Alzheimers is rife in my family so I am really excited about these findings. I trust that more research will go into controlling the diseases that have been destroying our coconuts.

    1. Coconut oil will raise your cholesterol but this is not a bad thing.
It raises good HDL and lowers bad LDL and also lowers triglycerides.
Refined sugar, flour and high carb diets will raise bad LDL and triglycerides.

  88. Peroxynitrites are held to be the main cause of short-term memory impairment in Alzheimer’s disease. Peroxynitrites damage the function of receptors involved in short-term memory (acetylcholine muscarinic), mood (serotonin), sleep (melatonin), alertness (dopamine), and smell (olfactory). Peroxynitrite scavengers such as ketones from coconut oil, minocycline and other tetracycline antibiotics, and phenolic compounds including rosmarinic acid, grape seed extract, cinnamon extract, Cinnamomum zeylanicium (Ceylon cinnamon) essential oil, lemon balm essential oil, sage essential oil, and rosemary essential oil have led to improvements in cognitive function in animal models, clinical trials, and case studies (for the clinical trials see Jimbo et al. and Akhondzadeh et al.). Jimbo and colleagues used aromatherapy and noticed significant improvements in all patients with demenitia, but especially those with Alzheimer’s disease. This may be due to the fact that the essential oils directly reach the part of the brain most damaged by the disease–the hippocampus. However, the clinical trial seems to indicate that peroxynitrites may be at the root of other forms of dementia as well. Unfortunately, so far all the large Alzheimer’s organizations and many researchers have ignored the evidence that Alzheimer’s disease can be treated with essential oils. Profit is driving the process, which is sad since the knowledge already exists to treat Alzheimer’s disease.

    1. Lane I have a dad that has vascular dementia can you please tell me what essential oils you are talking about? I am a young living distributor. Appreciate your help. I am always trying to find new ways to help him as he is a high functioning demintia person.

      1. We (my sisters and I) have given my mother the following essential oils to smell: cinnamon leaf, clove, bay laurel, rosemary, sage, oregano, thyme, peppermint, and orange. Other essential oils that have shown effectiveness in clinical trials and case studies include lemon balm, lemon, grapefruit, frankincense, and lavender. We began using aromatherapy five years ago (my mother has had Alzheimer’s disease for eight years). We give her each scent to smell under her nose for a few seconds each day (twice a day should be safe as well). The effects are not immediate, but after a month my mother realized that I had moved something on her bookshelf and asked why have you been giving this to me every day for a month (for the first three years, we only used rosemary essential oil). Over the course of time, she recognized her home again, began to feel comfortable around her brother (who she used to think was an impostor), slept through the night, could recite the alphabet, count to ten, remember her name and sometimes spell it, could sometimes remember the order of days and months, could complete simple phrases such as I scream, you scream, we all scream for…ice cream and April showers…bring May flowers, asked if a container with salt was sugar, is more lucid more of the time, has fewer “delusions”, and is much more alert and aware. The one testimonial I have for aromatherapy and vascular dementia comes from the following site (see last comment)::
        http://scienceline.org/2011/03/lavender-and-old-lace/
Jimbo and colleagues in Japan found that aromatherapy could be an effective means to treat dementia.
        http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/j.1479-8301.2009.00299.x/full
Aromatherapy may be an effective treatment for some types of dementia including Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia.

    2. Wouldn’t any anti-oxidant counter-act the effects of peroxynitrates? How about vitamin C?

      1. This is a good question. Not every antioxidant scavenges and reverses the damage done by peroxynitrites. Compounds that can readily donate two hydrogen atoms counteract the effects of peroxynitrites. Vitamin C is a peroxynitrite scavenger but under certain circumstances can become a pro-oxidant. Some forms of Vitamin E are good peroxynitrite scavengers (gamma tocopherol, for instance) and others apparently are not (alpha tocopherol). Some peroxynitrite scavengers do not readily cross the blood-brain barrier. I use essential oils because through inhalation they directly reach the brain, but a number of other peroxynitrite scavengers are likely also useful in the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.

    1. Thank you fr the link. It is important to base our decisions on evidence collected, but if no one is collecting evidence and the treatment causes no harm, why would you put off trying something like this on a patient who may well be beyond any benefits before it’s proven beyond a shadow of a doubt?
      FYI:
MCT trials (phase I and Phase II)
In August 2009 the following study was published in Nutrition & Metabolism.
Study of the ketogenic agent AC-1202 in mild to moderate Alzheimer’s disease: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial.
      Ref: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19664276
The paper’s lead author, Samuel Henderson, is the founder of Accera (http://www.accerapharma.com/index.html), the biotechnology company that developed Axona (http://www.accerapharma.com/axona.html). Axona is an FDA approved medical food used to treat Alzheimer’s. (Axona was at one point named Ketasyn http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/releases/81005.php) If you click on Dr. Henderson’s name, you will find more papers by him on PubMed related to the treatment of Alzheimer’s with medium chain triglycerides.
We know that AC-1202 consists of nothing more than MCT oil because Accera says so in its patent application, which can be found here: http://www.freepatentsonline.com/y2008/0009467.html
Dr. Mary T. Newport discusses this on pp. 57-61 of her book Alzheimer’s Disease: What If There Was a Cure? The Story of Ketones (Laguna Beach, CA: Basic Health Publications, Inc., 2011 ISBN: 978-1-59120-293-6).
MCT oil, which is derived from coconut oil, has been shown to treat Alzheimer’s disease in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, multicenter trial.

  89. My true story. I am 50 years old, and I noticed my memory is going bad…forgetting phone numbers, difficulty doing multiplications on top of my head, forgetting names of people I have meet… I attributed the problem to getting older. But since I started eating raw coconut for the past five weeks…my memory recall had improved a lot…and my blood pressure have gone back to 125/80 from 140/90..

    1. Arnx,
I too just celebrated my 50th birthday.
About one week after that, a dear friend took me out to lunch. I shared with her that lately, my brain seemed to be on fire! Clarity has improved, memory has improved, and things just make sense to me more easily.
I have a Master’s Degree in Computer Science, worked through school and worked HARD for my grades. I mean HARD. Nothing came easy.
However, for the first time in my life I feel that if I were in college again, I would blow people out of the water. My professors would proud to have such a focused and intense student and insightful student.
As my friend listened to me, she asked me if I were taking any supplements because all of her other friends felt like they were losing their mind when they hit 50.
After some thought, I realized that for the last couple of months, I have been taking a minimum of 3 tablespoos of Virgin Coconut Oil. I also have been taking Krill and then replaced that with Liquid Marine Phytoplankton for the last 8 months or so.
I am taking those items for reasons not related to memory or cognition, but I do SO appreciate the benefits that I was unaware of.
      True story.

  90. my mother has alzheirmer’s she is 71 years old to day is jan 11 will start to give her the organic extra vrgin coconut oil that i got from gnc store.doc newport website say about 4tsp. i hope and pray to god that it work. if not a lot than a little i would be thanks. it’s so hard to see my mother.like she is no medication seem to work they have her on three type.god be with us as we try this.

    1. Kim,
My 70 y/o mom was diagnosed 2 years ago and had signs for about 2 years before that. I haven’t tried the coconut oil with her yet, but I have found that Vitamin C works wonders! She isn’t totally reversed yet (maybe I need to up how much she takes in), but she is having more better days. I give it to her in the form of one “cutie” (the baby oranges) a day.
I found out through research that Vitamin C “eats” the sticky proteins that accumulate on the brain of Alzheimer patients. Google it to see what you find.
      I wish you the best!

  91. Coconut oil amounts to be taken daily varies. Spoonfuls to tablespoonfuls / twice to three times a day. What is the CORRECT dosage?

  92. My aunt has final stage of Alheimers. I wish I would have known this earlier to try it. But I thought about Thai food. It is made with a lot of coconut milk. So I looked up this article:
    http://www.searo.who.int/en/Section1174/Section1199/Section1567/Section1823_8066.htm
Which basicaly said what is below, but I thought, India and Thailand use coconut oil in their food. That is probably why they have less Alheimers.
    East-West differences
Studies done in South India, Mumbai and the northern state of Haryana in India have reported very low rates of occurrence of Alzheimer’s disease in those at 65 years of age or older, ranging from about 1% in rural north-India (the lowest reported from anywhere in the world where Alzheimer’s disease has been studied systematically) to 2.7 in urban Chennai.
Studies from China and Taiwan have also shown a lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease as compared to western countries. The low rates of occurrence of Alzheimer’s disease in the eastern countries is in striking contrast to data from the western countries.
Community-based studies are of particular interest when they look at populations similar in origin but subject to relocation. Some Japanese reports are important in this respect. Two recent investigations in the rural areas of Japan revealed that Alzheimer’s disease occurred in about 3.5% of individuals aged 65 or more. Reported research in 1996 among older Japanese Americans living in Washington and in Hawaii revealed that the number of Alzheimer’s disease cases was much higher than that estimated in Japan and closely resembled the findings for North America and Europe.

  93. Cholesterol is important for brain function. If statin’s are given to alzheimer’s patients it should be stopped immediately. Also Americans are fat starved, coconut oil can only make things better.

  94. My mom’s had dementia. I sure wish I knew about the coconut oil. She passed away recently from the disease. I would have purchased it if I only knew!

    1. Sorry for your loss, Ida. Alzheimer’s is stealing our loved ones away right in front of our eyes. We lose the person long before their body finally gives out. I’ve lost family members to this horrible disease and understand the grief, frustration, sense of helplessness. Thank God you know about coconut oil now so your health can have a bright future!

  95. My mother has been on Exalon and Namenda for several years, doing what the medical specialists believe to be the best of what they have to offerright now to try and slow the progression of dementia. Of course her dementia is gradually progressing. We’ll never know if the meds have slowed her decline, or even hastened it. We’ll never know if she might have been better off whithout the meds at all. I am excited to know about coconut oil and will begin her on that right away. My question is what to do about the meds, and whether I should discontinue them. Or might that cause her problems? I can’t ask the neurologist, of course!

    1. Had started my father on aricept and he suffered horrible side effects. Took him off of it and refuse to use rx drugs. They have no proof that the drugs really work and the side effects are horrible. I have my father taking vitamins C, E, Folic Acid, B12, Fish Oil, low dose aspirin, Calcium with D & Magnesium and have noticed a big difference for the better. Will definitely look for the coconut oil in our neighborhood health food store. Also, give him tylenol pm to help sleep at night. The brain needs rest and he was not sleeping but staying up all night drinking wine and beer. My father also suffered TIA’s (mini strokes) 12-15 years earlier increasing his risk of developing dementia…vascular dementia and frontotemporal lobe dementia. No one told us about this increased risk. He has two bleeds in his brain. He has always loved to drink and now his family has to pay for his selfish behavior. His philosphy is that he is not an alcoholic because he doesn’t fall down drunk…but he can not go a day without alcohol…his wine! I let him drink because at 77 and with beginning dementia who cares? Eat what you want, drink and be merry! Does everyone have to live to be 100? The vitamins and tylenol are to help us deal with him while he is with us.

  96. I have been using a concentrated dried powder extract that is mostly aloe vera, but they warn against the skin because it is a powerful laxative and to get the medicinal benefits of aloe, you would need to use a lot of the gel, so the skin would be too much. Also the speckled variety of aloe is not the one that contains the best polysaccharides, it’s the Barbadensis miller one, green, no white speckles. This info comes from Dr. McAnally and Dr. Reg McDAniel who did amazing tests using this stabilized aloe powder(fresh aloe has a self destruct enzyme) on AIDS patients, hospice cancer patients, way back in the early 80’s. The co. they developed for was sued in 07 for using “disease claims and testimonies to sell a nutritional supplement”, so you’ll see some bad press on them, but they have done amazing things and I still take it everyday! Ambrotose is the product.

  97. I am lost for words I have been trying to find what can help my dear mum who has been suffering from Allzheimer’s for the last 5 years Its heart breaking seeing your dear mother deteriorating, I will surley try the virgin coconut oil

    1. I have started my mother on the coconut oil.. How much am I suppose to be giving her.. I have been giving her 1 tablespoon mixed in her milk. she drinks it with no problems at all. can i increase it? do you think it will harm her if I give her to much?

      1. The article referenced four teaspoons of MCT (derivative of coconut oil) was what was used in the clinical trial the doctor couldn’t get her husband into. Later in the article it said he took coconut oil twice a day. For me personally, I’m going to start with 4 t. twice a day and see what happens!

  98. Documenting my family’s journey with coconut oil through a personal blog at thecureforad.com
After learning about Dr. Newport’s results, we had to try with my dad. We have seen some definite changes in his focus. Only been on it for about 3 wks, not everyone I’ve read is having immediate results, but some people are, and that is awesome! I think Dr. Newport said in her report that the most significant changes, she didn’t see until around the 3rd month? I believe. The thing is, there is nowhere but down with this horrible disease, so if there is something natural that won’t hurt, and can only help other areas of your health, along with *hopefully* improving symptoms of diseases such as Alzheimers, such a shame not to even try it.

    1. She said she saw improvement on the first day. Her husband was going to take a test he had taken before, and she gave it to him either the day before, or the day of the test, and he did much better on the test.
Coconut oil and ketones may hold the answer, but this story has been around for a long time, and I don’t see any other similar stories out there. I noticed cognitive improvement when I took it though, although I don’t have alzheimers or dementia.

  99. Sorry, I don’t believe in your case. First, you draw a conclusion from one example. There is still a lot of information missing. Nobody should trust such biased and not conclusive “evidence”. Second, of course the brain can use ketons as a energy source. BUT MCTs are in a lot of food we already consume on a daily basis (esp. milk!). Therefore, it’s unlikely that MCTs can actually reverse Alzheimer. If that would be the case, people who consume a lot of milk wouldn’t develop Alzheimer in the first place.

I am 64 years of age and was diagnosed with Parkinson’s 3 years ago. I experienced shakiness and general reduction of control and tremor on my left hand. I took pramipexole dihydrochloride three times daily for 7 months. In 2016 I started on a herbal formula i purchased from NewLife Herbal Clinic, i read alot of positive reviews about their successful Parkinson’s disease herbal treatment. Merely 3 weeks of the PD herbal formula usage my left hand tremor seized followed by other symptoms, i used the Parkinsons disease herbal formula for 8 weeeks all my symptoms were reversed.
