Putting to Rest Recent Codex Rumors

People Marching with BullhornsThere’s nothing like a good conspiracy theory. But in the Internet age, conspiracies sometimes proliferate like weeds—and this one is false.

As regular Pulse readers know, we are no fans of the Codex Alimentarius. Codex is the system being used to develop global guidelines and standards for virtually all aspects of the food supply including supplements. Codex dietary supplement standards are expected to mirror those currently being built into European guidelines, where the maximum limit for beta carotene is the amount found in half a large carrot, while that for selenium is no more than what is typically available in one third of a Brazil nut. Absurdly restrictive.
As mentioned in our first story, ANH-USA succeeded in getting some language removed from the Senate Food Safety Bill that would have endorsed “harmonization” with Codex. This was an extremely important amendment.
For the past few months a rumor that “Codex is here” or “Codex has passed” popped up on the Internet. The rumor started this summer after President Obama signed Executive Order 73544, establishing “The National Prevention, Health Promotion and Public Health Council.”
We’ll say it again: Codex is not here and Codex has not passed in Congress. President Obama’s recent executive order—part of the implementation of the healthcare reform bill—has nothing to do with Codex, and doesn’t even mention it.

  1. I am glad that Codex has not passed as they seem to favor GMO’s and so does our FDA and all the large corporations that have to do with agro-chem-bio. We need real food! And also has anyone noticed that many fertilizers are using chitin and there is a food grade chitosan being produced? I do not want ground up crab and lobster shells in my food. Isn’t it enough that I have to avoid foods that have it incorporated into their DNA?

  2. You are right that it is absurdly restrictive. Dr. Harold Foster talks about areas in Africa that have lots of selenium in their soil have less cases of AIDS where other areas in Africa with only a small amount in the soil, have many more cases. The whole thing is sick and will lead to a second Holocaust.

    1. FYI, I think the article has the Executive Order number wrong. It starts with a “1” not a “7” like so: 13544.

  3. I, personally, (and with friends) have been fighting the takeover of supplements by big pharma since the late 60’s and find the codex thing another fight to add to the list. Thanks for paying attention. We older people need all the help we can get.

  4. Thanks for the info. I have been one of the guilty parties spreading this rumor about Codex. I will have to do a back-paddle with my friends and family. Needless to say, I am grateful that it was a rumor.

  5. I just want to thank and appreciate you for all your hard and obviously successful work you are doing, thank you so much. I wish I cound donate, but I’m not in a position to do that at the moment.

  6. thank you thank you for good results in beating down the mercenary ambitions.. why isn’t WELLNESS & FITNESS an aspect of our many government programs.. is it that everyone just wants to perpetuate their job & bonus.. who can we get to put us on offense rather than always defense.. my several natural doctors & health science institute need help in getting their simple cheap & personal means of health known… we must also kill the “anything that cures is a drug” so FDA can maintain control… wow.. so much to do… grandpa george

    1. all the more reason to get a third party started..the criminals in dc have no interest in helping citizens.

  7. The United Nations under the influence of Big Pharma created Codex. Maybe we should end the UN so they can’t terrorize us anymore with their absurd health regulations. Theres absolutely nothing dangerous about supplements or anything natural. Its the drugs that should be completely banned. Maybe we should get rid of evidence-based trials and replace them with far superior conclusion-based trials that actually produce real results. Not just results that reward people for manipulating nature.

  8. Thank you so much for clarifying this confusion. In these times, where Internet rumors can spread like wildfire, it’s tempting to get into a fearful place when what we need are facts, strategy, and cool heads.
I also want to thank you for the most valuable work you’re doing. Your understanding of the need to preserve our freedom and our health, the information you provide, and the manner in which you dispense that information–they are all so much in alignment with my own work. I really appreciate you!

  9. That is good to know, but Americans should not become complacent. The NWO is still plotting to curtail our freedoms and have recently succeeded in placing many restrictions on herbs and herbal remedies in Europe. I am praying the European people will revolt and insist those restrictions be revoked, because each victory against this creeping, insidious process will slow down the global “harmonization” . One day their reign of terror will be completely over! In the meantime, we must remain vigilant.
