Children’s Food Doused with Carcinogen

We are, quite literally, poisoning our kids. Action Alert!
Testing of children’s breakfast cereals from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) has found that major brands, such as General Mills’ Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios, are contaminated with high levels of glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto/Bayer’s Roundup herbicide. These results provide more evidence to support a ban on this dangerous herbicide.
The EWG test’s most shocking results include Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch and Cheerios Toasted Whole Grain Oat cereals, which were found to contain 833 and 729 parts per billion (ppb) of glyphosate. These levels are significantly higher than what EWG scientists consider safe for children at 160 ppb.
ANH-USA’s own testing of breakfast items found similarly troubling levels of glyphosate, including 1,327.1 ppb glyphosate in an instant oatmeal product.
You won’t find the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) willing to act, however, since the agency believes, contrary to many others in the scientific community, there is nothing wrong with glyphosate. EPA tolerances for glyphosate range from 0.1 to 310 parts per million on a range of crops, not finished consumer products. Even these tolerances are unlikely to be enforced: in 2017, the agency issued a Draft Risk Assessment for Glyphosate concluding that glyphosate is unlikely to be carcinogenic to humans.
The EPA’s assessment conflicts with the World Health Organization’s classification of glyphosate as a “probable carcinogen.” Who are we to believe?
There’s strong reason to believe that the EPA is working on behalf of Bayer/Monsanto. First, there’s EPA cronyism. We know that Jess Rowland, a top EPA official, carried through a promise to Monsanto to quash an effort by the Department of Health to conduct its own review of glyphosate. But that’s not all. A letter from a former EPA employee dying of cancer accused Rowland of having intimidated staff, compelling them to change reports to make them favorable to Monsanto. The letter also argues that the research on glyphosate supports categorizing it as a probable human carcinogen.
There are more examples of cronyism. Representative Lamar Smith (R-TX), the former chair of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology  sent a letter to the head of the EPA, Gina McCarthy. He expressed his concern that certain EPA scientists who had been involved in the WHO’s report—the one that found glyphosate was probably carcinogenic—might compromise the agency’s ability to “fairly assess glyphosate based on sound science.” That’s like saying if you have scientific evidence that smoking causes cancer, you’re no longer able to evaluate the scientific evidence on smoking.
So, the cronies are stacking the deck in favor of Monsanto and its poison; no surprise there. But the science also seems clear. A former executive director of the National Academy of Sciences board on agriculture published an analysis comparing the WHO’s and the EPA’s evaluation of glyphosate. The analysis finds that, compared with the WHO review, the EPA did not review the pertinent science when evaluating glyphosate, and that the EPA disregarded scientific evidence of genotoxicity associated with glyphosate—that is, the ability of glyphosate to damage cells’ genetic material, which can cause mutations that lead to cancer.
To believe the EPA, we would also have to ignore the reams of other evidence pointing to the danger of glyphosate not just as a carcinogen but as a potential endocrine disruptor. Other work has shown that glyphosate may be the least dangerous aspect of Roundup: for many pesticides, the complete formulation—that is, the chemicals added to the active ingredient—can be up to 1,000 times more toxic than just the active ingredient.
We cannot rely on the EPA to do the right thing. We must continue to push Congress to issue a ban on glyphosate.
Action Alert! Tell Congress, with a copy to the EPA, to ban glyphosate. Please send your message immediately.

    1. It’s not protecting us, nor is it even pretending to. It’s the “Environmental” Protection Agency. It protects what it thinks the environment should be, not what is healthy for humans–or any other living things, for that matter.

  1. This is a CRIME!
We must treat it as such! It also violates our Constitution – Life, Liberty and Happiness. How are we gonna approach those lofty ideals, left alone achieve them, when our kids are starting out their lives full of carcinogens?
If we want to know why our cancer rates, especially children cancer rates, are rising astronomically- look no farther!

  2. Just remember: What goes around comes around! If you try to place your mind in the ‘shoes of another’, you may become aware that toxic, synthetic, pollution by man-made re-combinations of the natural, anywhere in that food-chain, will ultimately have a detrimental impact on everything, everywhere, simply dissipating less-so the further tested from the initial incursion! But the fact that you’re NOT considering the market-relevant need to protect children as a precursor to deciding if this ‘crap’ should be regulated implies you’ve chosen the ‘Zombie’-world of cold-calculation over the organic-world of natural determination and a child’s welfare!

  3. Why has this taken so long to get glyphosate banned???? I’ve been protesting Monsanto for at least 5 years. Now can our farmers even buy seeds that are not genetically modified? It’s a sad day when we’re poisoning our very children out of existence. I try to grow organic but have a GMO field of corn or soybeans 1/4 mile away. I’ve lost all bees in my area and my garden has been getting worse every year. Probably going to have to build a greenhouse if I truly want organic. Other countries have banned the use of these chemicals so why haven’t we????????
Is it because of the greed these monopolies have over your heads. I sure hope you can keep your children and grandchildren safe from these poisoned foods…….

  4. Dear Members of Congress,
Please ban all use of glyphosate herbicide. The World Health Organization has listed it as a probable human carcinogen and US citizens should not be subjected to that risk. Children especially are vulnerable though breakfast cereals and other foods.
Please also ask the EPA to actually test it in a fair manner and not rely on what industry tells them. Monsanto/Bayer, the makers have a long history of deceit. Their research on their own product can not be deemed reliable.
Thank you very much for your consideration of this very important request.

  5. Ban glyphosate, as the EWG test’s most shocking results include Honey Nut Cheerios Medley Crunch and Cheerios Toasted Whole Grain Oat cereals, which were found to contain 833 and 729 parts per billion (ppb) of glyphosate. These levels are significantly higher than what EWG scientists consider safe for children at 160 ppb.

  6. Ban this extremely harmful chemical, glyphosate! Most of us know that eating non-GMO/organic foods is one way to avoid it, but so many still don’t and it’s harming our planet, our kids, the bees; once the bees are gone, so are we. Please vote with your conscience and read the research that backs this up. It’s frightening and it s/b banned immediately! Profits over safety are never a good idea.

  7. It IS an abomination. Keep ’em sick; keeps ’em in the doctors office and keeps parents broke and bewildered.

  8. Get Glyphosate out of our crops and foods!!! Support farmer’s with subsidies to implement more natural methods of weed and pest control to decrease the contamination of our environment/plants/grazing animals/and humans. PEASE!

  9. We are seeing the actions of large scale agriculture in climate change, soil erosion, the killing of pollinators, & the residue of chemicals into our food.
All these wrongs do not make a right!
DO your job, DO THE RIGHT THING!!!

  10. When children are being fed food that is contaminated with known carcinogens, it is a moral imperative for Congress and the EPA to act. Breakfast cereals have been shown to contain levels of glyphosate, levels that in many instances far exceed the “safe” level established by scientists. To continue to have our children exposed to products that can impact their health and possibly cause life-threatening disease and do nothing to stop this is unconscionable. Congress must respect and honor its oath of office to serve the best interests of the public and this country.. The EPA must perform their mandated duty to protect the environment and keep the public safe from harm.

  11. It sounds as if we’re spraying Roundup on Cheerios. Why is science ignored? Answer: profits.

  12. The EPA is duty bound to protect American citizens and is paid by taxpayers. The findings by the WHO and findings by the EPA but withheld by intimidation by Gina McCarthy reveal the health risks associated with RoundUp. I believe all involved in withholding the true risks of glyphosate should be charge with negligence and fired.

  13. I no longer have young children, but I quit eating oats. Leastwise those commercially produced. Organic at whole foods is my choice. Until I found out those are contaminated also.

  14. PLEASE will somebody in Congress, who isn’t purchased by the corporations yet, work on behalf of ‘we, the people,’ (as in actual living, breathing human beings) to call a HALT to the constant ritual of poisoning our food on behalf of the corporate heads such as Monsanto, Bayer, and others. We, the people, are being required to sacrifice our LIVES so that these corporations can continue to coat our food with their manufactured poisons. What the eff have WE ever done to deserve to be sentenced to death to satisfy the hatefulness and insatiable greed of giant corporations and their owners? This is outrageous. There is hardly any product on the grocery store shelves that does NOT contain some sort of unacceptable ingredient such as GMO’s, heavy amounts of sugars, pesticides, or the manufacture of which does NOT result in the extinction of vulnerable animals. It does appear that the majority of U.S. corporations are operators of criminal enterprises which are solely in the business of improving their financial bottom line despite the compromised product they shove onto the U.S. public. This needs to stop.

  15. Where are you people’s consciousness, or do you not have one. It’s just so sad that these who are poisoning all people across this globe and it’s all done in the name of Greed. I am from an older generation when the food was grown without a lot of pesticides, but today even all the soil has been poisoned. Please stop the greed and poisoning the planet and all who dwell on it.

  16. Please ban glyphosate. My biggest fear is that glyphosate may be the least dangerous aspect of Roundup: for many pesticides, the complete formulation—that is, the chemicals added to the active ingredient—can be up to 1,000 times more toxic than just the active ingredient.

  17. It is time to ban glyphosate, too much evidence has been revealed to keep this product on the market and used with out understanding of what the effects of exposure is on all of us as well as the pollinators and other insects essential to our survival.Profits before safety is wrong.

  18. The EPA’s assessment conflicts with the World Health Organization’s classification of glyphosate as a “probable carcinogen.” Who are we to believe?
There’s strong reason to believe that the EPA is working on behalf of Bayer/Monsanto.

  19. You are lying about Glyphosate. It is not used on grains such as oats, wheat, etc. Any use on oats or any other grain species would kill the plants and they would not produce seeds or grains. If there are Roundup resistant varieties, then you need to prove that there is a residue of the herbicide remaining in the end product.

  20. Furthermore, I have been exposed to Roundup most of my life, and I have not had any bad effect from it. I believe that certain people are just pissed off because Monsanto made a lot of money on the product.

  21. What are you doing to solve this problem? My guess is NOTHING. Why, because it may take away from your and your shareholders profits?

  22. It is so incredibly deplorable and disgusting that the EPA, FDA, etcetera, are no different than the Big Pharma’s and the Big Agri’s.
It is appalling, but not surprising, that this is the American Liberal Government!!

  23. Stop poisoning our children for the sake of your profits.
Already there are class action suits against your Roundup products used by homeowners for yard maintenance. So, on that basis, I would think that you would be at least somewhat concerned.

  24. The biggest bunch of crooks on the take work(?) in Washington, DC and the American Public knows it. Crimes against humanity will someday be prosecuted. Which ones of you will be judged guilty? Oh, is that why the courts are being stacked against the American Public? Thought so…

  25. Why does it take so long for a proven carcinogen to be banned from our food chain? Also, how does the EPA explain its omissions in its evaluations of glyphosate? Where in Congress are there some strong leaders to issue a ban on glyphosate?

  26. Children’s foods have to be tested. It is now a moral question. if we reject testing then the future generations have a right to accuse us of murder.

  27. BAN GLYPHOSATE!!! This is another example of big Pharma controlling the EPA and FDA at the expense of all of our health.

  28. We must continue to push for a ban that is poisoning & killing people, wildlife and the soil!

  29. This is all part of Satan’s plan for the end times. Good and Bad are completely reversed in today’s world. “Has anyone noticed?” It is part of Bible Prophesy; clear as the nose on your face, if you just take the time to read it.

  30. STOP POISONING OUR CHILDREN ! WHAT GIVES YOU PEOPLE THE RIGHT TO PUT PROFITS BEFORE PEOPLE!??? THIS IS ABSURD! WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON IN OUR FOOD SYSTEM?? WE SHOULD NOT BE USING THESE CARCINOGENS/PESTICIDES/GLYPHOSATE/CHEMICALS ON OUR FOODS HERE IN AMERICA! STOP POISONING HUMANITY ITSELF! YOU’RE KILLING OUR PLANET/KIDS FUTURES!! THIS MUST STOP NOW!!!

  31. Stop putting poison on our food. You can eat and put poison in your food but remember don’t screw with mine.

  32. I grew up on a dairy farm in the land of milk and honey, with bird songs filling the air on a june day. Now after a career of teaching, we made the mistake of returning home to a silent countryside. Not only are there very few birds left, we cannot ride our tandem bicycle down the road without both of us getting numb faces and migraines!
Basing an agriculture on synthetic chemistry is lunacy, for pests have a high reproductive rate and are certain to develop immunity. Already there are spray-resistant forms of pigweed choking the bean fields. And the the amount of spray which has to be used to achieve the same results has grown geometrically.
How can we allow the likes of Monsanto and Bayer to cause environmental disaster and widespread autism in our children? And why haven’t they been sent to the gallows before it ever got this bad?

  33. Research has conclusively proven that General Mills’ Cheerios and Honey Nut Cheerios, are contaminated with high levels of glyphosate, the active ingredient in Monsanto/Bayer’s Roundup herbicide. These results provide more evidence to support a ban on this dangerous herbicide.
