FDA Can’t Be Trusted on CBD

A Senate committee has approved language on CBD that will not protect consumer access to CBD supplements. Action Alert!
Two weeks ago, we reported on efforts to preserve consumer access to therapeutic levels of CBD oil in supplements. The US Senate Appropriations Committee has approved report language for FY 2020 that falls far short of protecting consumers, and we must act again to save affordable CBD.
The language approved by the Committee would give the FDA the authority to determine allowable levels for CBD in food and supplements. The language also instructs the FDA to develop an enforcement discretion policy on hemp while the agency “establishes a process for stakeholders to notify FDA for use of CBD in products that include safety studies for intended use per product, and makes a determination about such product.”
This is a huge problem. As we argued previously, we fear that if the decision is left to the FDA, the agency will protect the interests of pharmaceutical manufacturers and severely limit the amount of CBD allowed in supplements such that it becomes impossible, or extremely difficult, to get any therapeutic effect.
The language requiring notifications and safety studies also seems to relegate CBD in supplements to the new dietary ingredient (NDI) notification process—a process which the FDA has not yet completed. Recall that one of the main problems with the FDA NDI guidance that we’ve previously discussed is that it isn’t practical for supplement companies to conduct expensive safety studies on supplements; supplements are typically natural compounds that cannot be patented, and thus the cost of these safety studies cannot be recuperated like they can in the pharmaceutical industry.
Requiring notifications and safety studies on CBD supplements also defies logic. CBD was apparently studied sufficiently for the FDA to approve it as a drug. A World Health Organization report that critically reviewed CBD characterized it as “generally well-tolerated with a good safety profile.” Why would CBD supplements be required to submit additional studies?
“Enforcement discretion” for certain products containing CBD will presumably allow the sale of some CBD products free of FDA intrusion, which is a positive step, but it is not nearly enough. We must fight for an exemption for CBD supplements at a dosage level up to 100mg.
Action Alert! Write to Congress, calling for an amendment that exempts CBD from FDA rules and allows CBD in food and supplements at a dose of up to 100 mg. Please send your message immediately.

  1. We need an amendment that exempts CBD from FDA rules and allows CBD in food and supplements at a dose of up to 100 mg

  2. I’m sick and tired of the government telling me what I can do to benefit my health. The FDA needs to lay off my ability to buy quality CBD products that are best for me. Not the drug companie’s pockets.

  3. Because of the relationship between FDA and Pharmaceuticals, it is dangerous to allow the FDA to determine what natural medicines people need. Their doctor/nurse/coach should teach them how much is safe through education. Please rethink this decision to allow the FDA to make these decisions.

  4. We are calling for an amendment that exempts CBD from FDA rules and allows CBD in food and supplements at a dose of up to 100 mg.

  5. As a practicing Doctor and Herbalist for 40+ years, and having extensive experience in my practice working with High CBD Hemp Products in my personal practice, I truly believe it is safe and virtually safe from negative side effects even up to 300+ mg per day. Please Do NOT let the FDA control access to this amazing herb that is helping so many of my patients and their pets.

  6. Don’t protect big pharma!

  7. The FDA is overwhelmed with requests for tests as it is. To ask it to keep us safe from snake-oil CBD is unrealistic — and dangerous. We need to find another way to protect consumers.

  8. I am calling for an amendment that exempts CBD from FDA rules and allows CBD in food and supplements at a dose of up to 100 mg.

  9. I am asking for an amendment that exempts CBD from FDA rules and allows CBD in food and supplements at a dose of up to 100mg

  10. We need to clear away some of the deadwood that is just lying around in D.C. collecting paychecks while NOT DOING THEIR JOBS OF GOVERNMENT OVERSIGHT AND PROTECTION OF THE PEOPLE!

  11. Congressional representatives I am calling for an amendment that exempts CBD from FDA rules and allows CBD in food and supplements at a dose of up to 100 mg. I have found great benefit in the use of CBD both internally and applying it to my skin. It is natural and not loaded with chemicals which I can not use.
    Sincerely,

  12. Please take action to insure that CBD in food and supplements is EXEMPT
From FDA rules for doses of up to 100mg.

  13. I have lost all faith in the FDA. They line their pockets over what is right. Shameful and which is why I can all my own food and grow my own.

    1. This is nothing to do with Trump lol
Trump and the FDA are not congruent at all
      they are totally seperate
      coudn’t be ore seperate
Trump has been changing many policies to protect the small business owners
He’s pretty much demonstrating he’s on our side by his actions

  14. Dear Sirs/Madams,
I am cooling for an amendment, that exempts, CBD, from FDA rules and allows CBD in food and supplements at a dose of up to 100mg
    Thank You,
    T Bennett

  15. The FDA is OWNED by the Corporate Behemoths who want ALL the money for everything to go to them!!!! WE see it, everywhere, in everything!!!!

  16. Oh geez! You (gov’t.) think u know whats best!? Baloney, I think special interests (aka – money-driven) make the final decisions. I don’t need more of my freedoms taken away on purchasing CBD. Please exempt CBD from FDA rules and allow DBD in food and supplements at a dose of up to 100mg.

  17. I and Many other Voters are calling for an amendment that exempts CBD from FDA rules and allows CBD in food and supplements at a dose of up to 100 mg.

  18. I want Congress to EMEMPT CBD FROM FDA RULES AND ALLOW CBD IN FOODS AND SUPPLIMENTS AT A DOSE OF UP TO 100 mg. I am sick of the FDA cozying up to the pharmaceutical industry and making it harder to access remedies that come from nature.Americans already are losing their homes and so forth by the cost of expensive medications and expensive healthcare, and we can’t take it anymore!

  19. The pharmaceutical companies should not be able to mandate what the natural health industry has already thoroughly researched and found to be safe. Natural CBD is cutting into their opiod profits and they are going to try to put a halt to that!

  20. I’m calling for an amendment that exempts CBD from FDA rules and allows CBD in food and supplements at a dose of up to 100 mg.

  21. We need an amendment that exempts CBD from FDA rules and allows CBD in food and supplements at a dose of up to 100 mg. The FDA has a history of not protecting the public from big pharma. We need to break that cycle and have some common sense used with CBD. I don’t know why the FDA has such an issue with THC and CBD, but my guess is that it’s because the ban on THC has been such a money maker for the government. Not to mention that it was the first presented as an anti establishment substance. But the benefits of THC AND CBD has been undeniably established by many reputable scientists and organizations. Get out of the dark ages!

    CBD needs to be exempt

  23. You crooked gop bastards. Stay the hell out of the cbd industry. It’s none of your damned business. Why in hell do you want to take a benign pain reliever away from all the elderly folks. You just love cruelty and death of all you can inflict.

  24. If the decision is left to the FDA, the agency will protect the interests of pharmaceutical manufacturers and severely limit the amount of CBD allowed in supplements such that it becomes impossible, or extremely difficult, to get the benefits.

  25. The FDA needs to be taken to task on natural supplements and natural health..It’s about our well being..

  26. CBD is a natural medicine that had been scientifically proven to cure cancer and other diseases and ailments. It needs to be legal and protected.

  27. Honorable US Congress, as an American I would like to ask you to please allow the FDA to conduct all proper and necessary scientific and medical studies regardless of the time that this would take to make sure CBD is safe. If for any reason the results of the study deliver a negative outcome from the use of CBD it is the US Government and in this case the FDA to completely ban and prohibit the use of CBD by people.

  28. Allow the people to buy CBD oil. It is our right as American Citizens to explore all options of treatment not just western medicine or drugs with death and suicide as side effects. We will fight this until every penny of lobbyist money is gone.

  29. We need an amendment that exempts CBD from FDA rules and allows CBD in food and supplements at a doe of up to 100 mg.

  30. To the US Senate; I have been in healthcare since 1977. You cannot trust FDA to treat natural supplements like CBD fairly. They are controlled by Big Pharma and have squelched many safe natural products that can or have competed with their products. CBD is safer than the drugs they are using. DR Joseph Kerwin

  31. break the bonds of FDA ownership by Big Pharma! & the CDC! & whomever else. Let honest-to-God scientists and nutritionists deal with natural substances. Due to Big Pharma’s ownership of the FDA, CDC, AMA, Med/Vet Schools, we already have by far the most expensive medical industry in the world … & we’re way down the list of efficacy. FIX IT!

  32. Do not allow the FDA, who aligns its self with the BIG pharma to dictate the concentration of CBD products. CBD supplements are a far safer way to address pain, anxiety, seizures, sleep than the dangerous drugs that big pharma pushes. Big Pharma is controlling our med schools, media, and politicians!
Please exempt CBD from the FDA’s rules!

  33. PLease allow an exemption for CBD by an amendment to current FDA rules that allows CBD in food and supplements at a dose up to 100 mg. TYhank you.

  34. CBD products contain effectively no THC. CBD oil has helped me with chronic pain for years and even saved the life of one of my cats when he had a bad reaction to a vet prescribed appetite stimulant.
Please exempt CBD from the FDA rule and allow CBD to be sold over the counter.

  35. CBD s are safe and legal as a supplement! The FDA should be concerned and doing studies on Vaping products that have killed and have over 800 sick with an unknown serious vape disease from unknown ingredients !!!

  36. Why do we have to have everything we do as in taking something for a illness have to be approve from the FDA. If i want cbd oil i should be able to get it and spend MY money on it. FDA is in for the money not to help people. I choose to take cbd oil and should take the responsibility of what I take to put in my body. FDA isn’t making money so they want to control us and that’s not right. Forget the FDA I’ve heard stories that if the FDA don’t want it they don’t do it. In England they have medicines that can cure diseases and if we get the stuff Lord help us if we get it and the government don’t make money off it. I don’t take many medicines because of the side effects because then you have to buy more medicine to help with the side effects no sense in that and my doctor gave me some medicine for headaches and the side effect causes rebound headaches and how stupid is that? I didn’t take it long but at the time it was helping my headaches until i could see my neurologist. So if the FDA isn’t going to make money of course they are going to say its bad. My husbands doctor told him that the FDA didn’t do any test to show if cbd oil was good or bad but then when i go on the internet there has been many studies about CBD oil and the doctor makes nothing off us because he won’t take the medicine the doctor has for him. What happen to the motto DO NO HARM. I think it’s harm when they know more about the medicine but bad or not they give it to you. I was on chemothrapy pills for 3 years and it cost my insurance 8,000 dollars a month. I was bless with good insurance or i wouldn’t take it. So trying to discourage us to take care of our own body without a doctors help is all against how the FDA and government works. Like they really care how we feel or if we are sick they don’t give a d— they just want to control our lives and we let them.

  37. Been taking CBD tincture for 7 months at 2 doses of 1,000 mg daily. As far as I can tell, ALL the side effects, even those I didn’t anticipate, were positive. Have experienced nothing negative or harmful at all. Previously I took Aleeve or Ibuprofen to ease hip pain. Hated taking them all the time. Started using CBD and haven’t take Aleeve/Ibuprofen since then. It’s pretty expensive and now that my hip has been replaced, I am cutting my dosage, since the replacement eliminated my pain. Purchase my tincture from Medterra.com who assure customers that they test regularly for the purity of their CBD. With regard to the FDA, (and sometimes the government must act) that agency clearly dropped the ball with opioids. That doesn’t foster confidence from the public. CBD shouldn’t be regulated except for procedures to protect consumers from companies that aren’t providing a legitimate product.

  38. I am asking for an amendment that exempts CBD from FDA rules and allows CBD in food and supplements. The FDA only has the interest of Big Pharma.
And also, all the issues with vaping are only happening because people want to be able to smoke marijuana. In places where it’s not legal they are vaping instead. Decriminalize, and make marijuana legal/recreational across the country. Just like Canada and some states have already. The time is now. It should have never been illegal to begin with!

  39. Please write an amendment that exempts CBD from FDA rules and allows CBD in food and supplements at a dose of up to 100 mg. You legalize lethal drugs that treat one symptom and cause a myriad of others. Then you restrict or ban natural substances such as vitamin C and CBD from easy consumer access. Make sure neither you nor your families have access either.
