Utilities across America are moving forward with the installation of wireless smart meters. These smart meters emit pulsed radio frequency radiation that, according to many reports, can damage people’s health and leave residents’ meters vulnerable to malicious attacks from hackers.
Take action and support HB 1038, a bill that would require homeowner notice before Smart Meters are installed.

I would like to find out how I can have my smart meter take out or off, can you tell me where I can have this done? I would truely appreciate this if you can give ma any information regarding this.
Sincerely, Than You Ruby Vencill
Dear Ms. Vencill: If you are located in Maryland they are obligated to remove the meter. We have heard mixed stories from residents – some utilities replaced the smart meter quickly while others had a more challenging experience; however, by order of the PSC, they must restore your meter. You need to inform them in writing. Here is a link to some relevant information: http://marylandsmartmeterawareness.org/opt-out-news/option-to-defer-smart-meters/ If you have questions, please visit the MarylandSmartMeterAwareness.org website and fill out the contact form: http://marylandsmartmeterawareness.org/contact-us/

Forget supporting a bill that would require homeowner notice before installation of smart meters!! How absurd! How about supporting a bill requiring homeowner opt-out option without the possibility of legal recourse?! I am not the slightest bit interested in being given notice, however, I AM interested in the freedom to say “Don’t put that thing in my home! It is MY home and no one will put anything inside my home that I don’t want to be there!?”
HB 1038 is on the table for March 14, 2013 in the House of Delegates Economic Matters Committee. It calls for a permanent NO FEE OPT OUT. Please sign the petition http://signon.org/sign/maryland-house-bill-1038?source=c.fwd&r_by=7048862 and make yourself heard, specifically those on the Economic Matters Committee: http://msa.maryland.gov/msa/mdmanual/06hse/html/com/03eco.html if you have not already done so. Maryland Smart Meter Awareness volunteers are working hard to spread the word and make this happen. Thank you for being informed and caring enough to do something about this important issue.
Even if you are notified, it does no good unless you can opt out. In California we were able to opt out but it cost us $75 plus an extra $10 per month and now they are talking of increasing those fees considerably. If fees go up, it will not be affordable for low and some middle income people.
I absolutely will not tolerate having a stupid meter installed in my home. The day that happens is the day I move.
Regretfully, this is being forced upon us and unless you take action to OPT OUT now, I’m afraid you will get one. And if we do not demonstrate to the legislators and Public Service Commission that we care by protesting these meters in large numbers, we may not even get a choice ultimately. They are deciding now. Please join http://www.MarylandSmartMeterAwareness.org and write the Economic Matters Committee members, and tell as many friends and neighbors as you can. Right now, the best we can accomplish is a right to choose and that we are not penalized financially for our choice.
How about in PA, is there a opt out option?
Hey John, I wish I could find out. I’m in PA and they are looking to install this thing. I want to opt-out and a person that answered my call said they are installing it no matter what! No choice involved. How’s that?
