We’ve been telling you over the last few years about the recent FDA guidance that threatens the future of homeopathic medicines in the US. Upending decades of safe regulation, FDA released a draft guidance in 2017 that essentially stated that all homeopathic drugs are illegal. ANH-USA, our friends at Americans for Homeopathy Choice, and other stakeholders are working with Representative Ro Khanna (D-CA) to get members of Congress to sign on to a letter to the FDA clarifying how the agency will ensure continued access to important homeopathic medicines. Take action below to urge your member of Congress to support this important initiative!
To recap, the FDA’s guidance document, which lays out the agency’s current position on the regulation of homeopathic drugs, says:
- Any homeopathic drug that has not been considered “generally recognized as safe and effective” (GRAS/E) is considered a new drug;
- FDA has not determined that any homeopathic drugs are GRAS/E;
- A new drug cannot be marketed unless it goes through the FDA’s approval process;
- No homeopathic drugs have gone through FDA approval nor can any producer afford to take them through the approval process.
The guidance also explains that, while all homeopathic drugs are illegal, the FDA will apply a risk-based enforcement approach. The agency has already begun to apply this doctrine; earlier this year the agency attacked manufacturers of injectable homeopathic medicines.
We know this isn’t about safety. A review of the evidence of adverse events related to homeopathy, which included data from 12 European countries, the US, Mexico, India, Israel and Brazil published between 1978 and 2010, found a total of just 1,159 adverse events. This equates to an average of just over 50 cases per annum across all 17 countries from which studies were conducted. Worldwide, an estimated 200 million people use homeopathy regularly, including 6 million in the United States. These data show that adverse events from homeopathic medicines occur at a very, very low rate.
So why go after homeopathic medicines? The FDA gets a large part of its funding from drug company user fees, and for this reason sees Big Pharma as its client. Homeopathic medicines, like supplements and other natural products, compete with pharmaceutical drugs, so the FDA uses its enormous power to tilt the scales in favor of the drug companies.

As a licensed allopathic physician and a trained homeopathic practitioner, I have used homeopathics for nearly twenty years with very good results and without any adverse effects. I had exceptional results with injectables when they were available in the USA, until 2010 when they were disallowed. To remove homeopathics from the medical arsenal merely for profit, negates the whole purpose of putting the patient first. It is one of many reasons the US continues to rank near the bottom in healthcare among the most developed countries. The first medical schools in this country taught homeopathy because of its benefits. Must Big Pharma profits always win cloaked by the veil of alleged patient safety, when prescription drugs cause a catastrophic amount of morbidity and mortality? One need look only as far as the current opioid crisis to make a point.

I don’t believe the FDA has the right to in force laws against products that are natural. The FDA and big Pharma work hand-in-hand and are one in the same as far as I can tell. We need to remove these people from the FDA and hire people who understand homeopathic and natural products and what benefits they have on the human body. We should not be forced by big Pharma to only have their options. I have lived most of my life using natural remedies which has helped me to overcome many illnesses.
The FDA has approved many pharmaceutical products that have several side effects and or death. Far more then using homeopathic or supplements.
I urgently ask you to sign onto Rep. Khanna’s letter to the FDA regarding homeopathic remedies. My family has used these remedies for many years and we wish to continue doing so. I safely use some homeopathic medications. The FDA’s blatant funding by drug companies clearly ignores proven worldwide safety of homeopathic medicines. Shutting down U.S. manufacturers of homeopathic medicine isn’t for safety nor our economy. It will require purchasing online from beyond the U.S. and shuts down companies, stores, and homeopathic doctors here in the U.S.
I use Bach homeopathic medicine for sleep and it works. I know of additional uses available with homeopathic medicines. Homeopathic medications in our country are safe without the side effect and long-term problems seen from non-homeopathic drugs, both in their lawsuits and listing of side effects. Even if it is not effective because it is not suited to the user, worldwide results show the individual is extremely unlikely to ever be harmed.

Please do not permit this FDA guidance initiative to move forward. Preserve homeopathy in its current form. The FDA guidance would destroy homeopathy in this country. It is a safe, effective if controversial treatment, and Americans freedom to avail themselves of it should be preserved. I am greatly concerned that this is FDA’s way of improving sales for Big Pharma, yet again. In my own practice, homeopathy is invaluable and has led to many cures of serious physical and psychological disturbances. It would be disastrous for my patients for its usage to be compromised.

I urge you to act on behalf of the people, and not money. Homeopathic medicine is an all natural way for people to be treated with low to no side effects. The only reason that this is even an issue is because in my own opinion, the big guys we hired to take care of us and things and not getting kickbacks, or money in short, from these products. It is wrong. All natural remedies are what we used traditionally. Everyone is bound to find one thing or another that does not agree with their body chemistry. But it is not even comparable to the remedies the pharmaceutical companies have. I agree with this petition in saying that it really is all about money and since whomever is making money from pharmaceutical companies, sees this as a threat because people are moving in the direction of all natural along with so much more in other area outside of this.
Elected officials, authority figures, are in the position they are because we hired them, and are counting on them to do right. Be ethical. Public servants. This shows that the system needs a change.
We will fight as much as needed to speak out against what we actually want as we are the ones who you work for and are supposed to be protecting and doing only the best for. Along with many other subjects.
Take money out of the equation and do the ethical and right thing. One day things will be very different where public servants are really that and genuinely there for the people and earth and animals and I await that day as we continue on to fight against each thing that so many of us disagree with. And that is not counting all people who do not take the time to do what I and all these other people are doing right now.
This has to change. Don’t make this a communist country where we are forced more and more to go against what we actually want when we are the ones who you need to be listening to.

The only way I am able to function at an acceptable level is with the use of Homeopathic Injectables. As far as GRAS/E for Homeopathic Injectables, I have been using them with great results, and with almost total positive management of symptoms since 1991, thirty years now.
I have also gained great benefit from homeopathic sublingual drops, and homeopathic sublingual pellets. For my severe allergies, shots developed from R.A.S.T. testing serve only to exacerbate my reactions. If homeopathic remedies become unavailable, I am left with NO defense against my sensitivities, and my present state of VA disability becomes compounded.
