The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) has called on the FDA and FTC to gag Dr. Joseph Mercola. Action Alert!
Riding the government’s wave of censorship, CSPI wrote letters to the FDA and FTC calling for “enforcement proceedings” against Dr. Mercola. Enforcement of what? Reading the letters, it appears that CSPI objects to Dr. Mercola’s efforts to inform the public about how natural medicine can help treat and prevent COVID-19. There have been 5.5 million cases of COVID-19 and more than 170,000 deaths in the US, with no pharmaceutical treatment and no vaccine. There is good evidence that natural medicines can help, but the federal government and now apparently CSPI don’t want you to know about these treatments. This censorship needs to stop. Please sign our petition to stop government censorship of natural treatments that cannot, and will never be able to, go through the billion-dollar FDA-approval process.
CSPI has been attacking natural medicine for a long time. A few years ago, they asked the FDA to abolish structure/function claims and qualified health claims for supplements. ANH and allies were able to defeat the FDA in court to allow for qualified health claims. These claims are important, as they provide consumers with vital information about the health benefits of natural products—especially as federal law prohibits supplements from making more substantial health claims, no matter how well-supported by the science, since only FDA-approved drugs have that privilege. (An example of a structure/function claims is, “calcium builds strong bones,” or “fiber maintains bowel regularity.” An example of a qualified health claim is “Vitamin E may reduce the risk of bladder cancer.”)
The nutrition experts we trust the most also believe that CSPI has gotten it wrong on nutrition, as we’ve detailed in previous coverage. CSPI called for the retraction of a British Medical Journal article that criticized low-fat diets and described the benefits of saturated fats. In fact, the letter CSPI sent calling for retraction was signed by a number of “experts” whose work had been criticized by the BMJ article’s author, giving said “experts” an opportunity to exact revenge.
As far as Dr. Mercola is concerned, the internet censors have already been waging an all-out war on his and many other natural health sites. Earlier this year we detailed how effective this censorship had been: Google traffic to mercola.com fell 99 percent over the span of a few weeks after Google changed their search algorithm based on the determination of “quality raters.” Apparently, this censorship isn’t enough for CSPI, who now wants the federal government involved.
Dr. Mercola’s website is a vast repository of natural health information, yet the tech monopolists are blocking access to this vital information. We must support Dr. Mercola. You can follow this link to opt-in to Dr. Mercola’s newsletter.
The attack on some of the most basic natural health information is deeply concerning. As we have pointed out, doctors are being gagged by the FTC and FDA and told they cannot tell patients about natural treatments because they are not FDA approved. The regulators know perfectly well that it is impossible to pay billions to win FDA approval for an unpatentable treatment. It is bad enough that this wink and nod system ruled before COVID, but now it is quite clear that it is killing people who could have been saved with natural treatments.

This is outrageous! I want to use natural remedies whenever I can.

It is obscene what has been done to Dr.Mercola – he has been a powerful voice for natural health care, preventative behaviors and informing the populace about alternative ways to get and stay health for about 25 years — Google has come after him along with a number of others and basically censored him for not staying “in line” with Big Pharma — this is just wrong at every level. He is a national hero in my book.
I am definitely an advocate of NATURAL resources for healing. I have personally experienced bad side effects to prescription DRUGS.
I support Dr. Mercola and he should be allowed in a country of FREE SPEECH to continue !!
I received Dr. Mercola’s newsletter for several years. Lots of good info. I just wish he’d stop promoting that the Coronavirus came from a lab in Wuhan. Maybe it did, maybe it didn’t. We’ll likely never know. I believe it cost him some credibility. I grew tired of his articles about it myself. I do NOT support him being censored. We have the right to have access to info on the type of “medicine” we choose. I know a couple of Naturopaths that have been shut down by the FDA for advertising treatment for cancer. It’s absolute BS!
I have been following Dr Mercola’s website for 10 years or more. He is always spot on with his observations regarding illnesses and treatment strategies. Each article is well researched with references. I have followed his recommendations for a number of conditions, for example, Vitamin D intake; I have not had a single cold or flu in the 5 years since I’ve been taking it, and that includes 2018 when there was a higher incidence of flu infections. I’ve used his probiotic vegetable cultures, MCT oil and other products with great results. We must not let greedy pharmaceutical companies and their flunkies muzzle Dr Mercola.!!!
It’s important to know natural and preventative treatments that improve our immune system without drugs. Please allow Dr. Mercola to inform the public about how natural medicine can help treat and prevent COVID-19. Please allow Dr. Mercola to provide nutritional information to the public. Please do not censor his website.

Mercola’s site is full of information. There never any requirement to follow any suggestions or to take any action regarding the information. And the interviews of professionals who specialize in studying in many different areas of health care bring the most up to date information which would not be easily available to the general public. As always we all have choices whenever we learn something new. What is the threat and harm in learning? Is there any evidence that Mercola’s site is fraudulent or that there is money being made. I expect Mercola makes a lot of money selling products but that part of his business as it appears on the site is kept definitely separate from his daily articles.
We do not need to be “protected” (read brainwashed). Free speech is a fundamental American right. Leave the censorship to Communist China and their ilk.
It has been disguising how little has been said from ALL the main stream NEWS networks, ALL governors (R or D) on the benefits to support the immune that GOD gave us. This situation has cost this country BILLIONS AND BILLIONS of dollars for no good reason.
Dr. Mercola has always had wonderful ideas to offer the general public on natural ways to support what GOD provided. Natural alternatives offer affordable and effective options for all of us, especially in light of the rapid increase in cost of so called healthcare. The present healthcare system is going to bankrupt this country if things don’t change.

Why can’t doctors do what’s best for their patients, instead of what’s best for Big Pharma’s bank accounts? People are being harmed, maimed, + killed for those ill-gotten gains, doesn’t it bother anyone anymore? Bless your heart–I feel sorry for you. I am 78 years old and I know how many illnesses natural remedies have prevented or cured for me and my family. For just a second, you might question the motives of those that are trying to keep this information from being known. I would (and have) literally staked my life on the belief that if we took lots of vitamin c and d-3, covid 19 would hardly be a threat. But for some dubious reason, the government and drug companies will not even look into the matter. Could it be money????? Or just the need to keep people subjected in fear to keep power?????

I canceled my subscription to CSPI. I think they should mind their own business and leave Dr. Mercola and other natural health sites alone. What makes CSPI think they are so smart.

It’s free speech if you can keep it, and big pharma along with big tech are determined to keep it for themselves, regardless of the consequences. People are losing their lives over the lack of decent medical care. Industrial “medicine” is for the health of the business model.
This is so sad and truly disturbing. Not that many years ago, all we had was “alternative” medicine. It wasn’t alternative then: it was the norm. I am old enough to remember my doctor talking about natural treatments along with diet and exercise, etc. We now have all these drugs and we as a society are sicker than ever. So many side effects associated with many of them. So many lawsuits against the companies that manufacture them. I feel like we are living in the twilight zone.
The pharmaceutical industry relies on people being ill. They’d like us all to be chronically sick and dependent on their pills. They have no interest whatsoever in ‘curing’ anyone. And too many MDs have become their willing accomplices. Unfortunately there are so many suckers out there who don’t realise this.
