After intense pressure from the mainstream media, a film about the CDC’s cover up of the link between autism and the MMR vaccine has been pulled from the Tribeca Film Festival.
Actor Robert De Niro made headlines late last week when he defended the inclusion of Vaxxed: From Cover-Up to Catastrophe in the festival’s lineup. The documentary was directed and co-written by Dr. Andrew Wakefield, a British medical researcher whose career came under attack after publishing a paper in the Lancet alleging a connection between the MMR vaccine and autism in children. The paper set off an enormous backlash—not only did the Lancet retract the article, but Dr. Wakefield and his colleagues came under investigation and lost their medical licenses.
We believe, along with our partners at ANH-International, that the evidence is on the side of Dr. Wakefield, and British authorities had an interest in destroying his career and reputation. Making an example of Dr. Wakefield and his colleagues sends a clear message to others who would upset the status quo—and potentially open up the United Kingdom’s government to legal action from parents of vaccine-damaged children.
De Niro, one of the film festival’s founders, initially stood behind the decision to screen the documentary. In a statement, he wrote:
[My wife] Grace and I have a child with autism, and we believe it is critical that all of the issues surrounding the causes of autism be openly discussed and examined. In the fifteen years since the Tribeca Film Festival was founded, I have never asked for a film to be screened or gotten involved in the programming. However this is very personal to me and my family and I want there to be a discussion, which is why we will be screening VAXXED. I am not personally endorsing the film, nor am I anti-vaccination; I am only providing the opportunity for conversation around the issue.
The film details the CDC’s cover-up of data linking the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine to an increased incidence of autism among African American boys—data that vindicates Dr. Wakefield and his colleagues.
The media, probably following the cues of advertisers, responded in full force. The LA Times published an opinion column that accused the film festival of selling out to “anti-vaccine crackpots,” spreading misinformation and pseudoscience, and undermining public health. The message in other mainstream publications was similar. We think it’s likely that corporate sponsors of the festival were also strongly opposed to screening the documentary.
Unfortunately, the backlash achieved its intended effect. A few days later, De Niro announced that the documentary had been pulled from the festival’s lineup.
This is a familiar story. The same journalists who denounce those who dare question the safety and effectiveness of vaccines as “unscientific” are themselves dogmatic, emotional, and combative. Real science is about examining all the evidence dispassionately before reaching a conclusion. We should all despair at the level of censorship of important information on display in this most recent incident.

It is very sad that in this day and age, doctors & pharmaceuticals still deny that the vaccines are a leading cause of Autism. It has been 22 years now since my son was diagnosed. Luckily, his case seemed to get better over time. My son ,Devan, was a normal, happy, healthy child, until he got his 18 month vaccinations, which included MMR. He quickly turned into a child that I did not recognize. He became violent, hurting himself and others, and he was no longer able to speak intelligibly. He was no longer able to call me ‘mom’. My hope is that one day, we can move forward and make vaccines that are free of Mercury and other harmful toxins. Then maybe we can finally do the right thing for our children.
My sympathies to you Cyndie, but I must admit that much as dislike big pharma, Dr. Thompson’s original assertions did not hold water from an epidemiological perspective. No statistical correlation could be found between vaccinations and autism. Maybe Dr. Thompson has new data and these should be given some scrutiny by independent statisticians. The problem here is that there is a strong human emotional tendency to associate events that are unconnected. Do I walk under ladders? I try not to !!
Having said, I agree that vaccinations should be spaced out rather more, but that’s just my own gut feeling with no scientific basis.
Unfortunately, society at large seems to be in one of its ‘anti-scientific’ cycles where all science has become construed as a political conspiracy to enslave the masses … whether with painkillers, sleeping pills, or global warming. Perhaps the medical profession could do a better job of emphasizing some of the negative consequences of their medications because as Newton once said, ‘to every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction’.
Vaccinations though have certainly achieved miracles throughout the world in eradicating smallpox, and reducing polio, measles, rubella, pertussis. But it seems vaccines have becomes victims of their own success for those who never lived through the pre-vaccination era when I recall the sadness of losing school friends to such diseases.
Maybe when we’ve stopped demonizing vaccinations and big pharma, we can all take a cooler look at the data and figure out how to apply vaccinations (as well as more mundane medications) more sensibly. No pill can correct for the lack of good diet and exercise!

So, where can we purchase a copy of this film to show to our family and friends ourselves?
Not showing the film has nothing to do with the “mainstream media”, it has to do with the bad science behind the allegation that there is a link between vaccines and autism. If it is alleged that the CDC is covering up such a link, then someone would have been able to show that link with the available data and publish that fact. Where is it?
There is no cover up. There can be no cover up as the scientific process will always expose the truth. The problem is that people may not accept the truth.
There was more than a decade of cover up. This movie is about CDC fraud… has nothing to do with the purity of the scientific process – which by the way is hard to come by in this country these days. CDC destroyed their own data in this study thinking they had turned the lights off on this ‘problem’ – it was still damaging children but they had their solution…except, Dr. Thompson didn’t destroy his data and after ten plus years decided to SHARE THE DATA. MMR if given too early can cause autistic regression. That is the truth too hard to swallow for those making money off our children.
Morality is sadly lacking in all facets of society,as far from purity as possible.

If the CDC is covering up the “evidence,” then the evidence needed to establish a link between a vaccination and an adverse reaction is not “available,” is it! Further, if the CDC is covering up the evidence, then the truth cannot be known to anyone but the CDC, can it!

When it was suggested (many years ago) that my my children get the DPT vaccine, and knowing the side effects of the vaccine itself, I asked my family doctor if he would be willing to subject his own children to the same vaccine. Guess what happened. The subject of vaccinating my kids was dropped, and never brought up again! This tells you that doctors know more about the dangers of these vaccines than they are willing to admit, especially when they clam up and are unwilling to expose their own children to these supposedly “safe” vaccines!

Strange how SV40 causes lung cancer and is activated by asbestos. Many of us got the SV40 virus from the polio vaccine but no one sues the vaccine manufacture but asbestos companies. Got to find a scape goat, can’t be big pharma.
Quite a few years ago a friend of mine took his 2 month old in for his “check-up” and he died that night of what the doctor said was SIDS. I will always believe it was the vaccinations.
