On Thursday, May 19, the Senate held their final vote on the Wall Street “Reform” Act. We are pleased to report that the anti-supplement provision drafted by Congressman Henry A. Waxman (D–CA), and included in the House bill, which would have expanded the authority of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), was not included in the final version of the Senate bill— the provision had suddenly become “too controversial”!
This victory was largely due to you, our supporters, who flooded Senate offices with thousands of emails and phone calls. Thank you! This is proof once again that when you make your voice clearly heard, legislators listen.
But the fight isn’t over yet.
Now’s the time to let your senators and Congressional representatives know that you want them to tell the conference committee to remove the FTC powers expansion language currently in the House version of the bill from the final version of the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. As we noted earlier, this could be a devastating piece of legislation for anyone who uses dietary supplements. Please TAKE ACTION immediately! We’ve made so much progress– we need to redouble our efforts now!
Please note: Senate Conferee were just named. They are Dodd (D-Connecticut); Shelby (R-Alabama); Johnson (D-South Dakota); Reed (D-Rhode Island); Schumer (D-New York); Corker (R-Tennessee); Crapo (R-Idaho); and Gregg (R-New Hampshire).
Also appointed as negotiators are Senators Lincoln (D-Arkansas); Chambliss (R-Georgia); Leahy (D-Vermont); and Harkin (D-Iowa).
If any of these Senate Conferees or negotiators are from your state it’s critical you TAKE ACTION immediately!
House Conferees will likely be named next week.

The FTC powers expansion language currently in the House version of the bill needs to be removed. You must know by now that millions of American rely on supplements for their health, that there has been a huge move to more natural healing, and that, unlike prescription drugs that now kill over a million people a year, these supplements aren’t hurting anybody. You represent the people of this country not big pharma or big business. Kill the anti-supplement provision.

Congress! What is wrong with them? They de-regulate businesses that corrupt our earth and its inhabitants, then they over-regulate the good nutrients we citizens choose to put into our bodies!

It isi already cost effective. Having the FTC oversee SUPPLEMENTS will only create a

I am a little confused. You say that the amendment by Rep. Waxman was not included in the Senate bill (S 3217), amendment (SA 3739). I called Sen. Casey on Friday May 21 to learn that it did pass on Thursday May 20, and Sen. Casey voted for it. I went to the U.S, Senate website to find out the vote was 60-40 with the Yays in the majority. Are you sure you have your facts straight? I did call twice and e-mailed Sen. Casey and Sen. Specter opposing this amendment.
I take a large handful of vitamins each day. I’m certain that this contributes to my fantastic health and energy level. Anyone who votes against my right to buy supplements will most certainly lose my vote!!!

They are slated to approve a supplement ruling that will cut down the maximum dosage of vitamins to a negligible amout (ie. an amount that doesn’t do anything to us). Supposedly it is already in effect in Europe. What stands in the way of the US implementing it are pre-existing supplement laws, which they are trying to circumvent. And this is just one of the many twisted things in the works. We need to keep pushing back and not let any of this fall between the cracks. I was told to get my house in order, My Brain Tumor was to deep for anyone to help. I could not speak plainly. That was 2 and 3/4 years ago. Thanks to Almighty God and healthful living PLUS SUPPLEMENTS I wake every morning and now speak and continue to learn, Please do not let this correction to a Bill go UNCARED for! So MANY of us are watching and depending and urging you to step in and correct this matter for us. A vote for or against = depends on your action.

Hear hear! These asinine politicians need to BACK OFF regarding our liberties & freedom of choice! After we got McCain to let up with his s3002 bill, they knew very well where the public stood on supplements — yet snakes like Waxman tried to sneak in similar anyway! Slipping it in AN UNRELATED BILL & with the type of language is an insidious act; thank you Alliance for Natural Health for your concerted efforts in keeping behind all this & updating us. The most scary part of this can be explained completly if one is to watch “Food Inc” it is the only why that Goverment can give control to big company’s such as monsanto to control our supplements thus controlling us!!!! its really scary!! keep fighting PLEASE!!!
Frankl, I am sick and tired of you law makers messing with my right to supplements. Get on with important things like illegal immigration, fixing the actual blame on the off shore oil leak, and placing the blame for that mess on Mr. Dick Cheney for allowing his Oil Co. buddies to drill without a permit. Permits are required to build most anything, yet, as I understand it, no permits were obtained to drill in the ocean.
Why was this allowed? It seems that the President is catching the blame for another inherited problem from the last Administration.
LEAVE THE SUPPLEMENTS ALONE !!! NO FTC and NO FDA oversight. They know nothing as MDs and Pharmists are not trained in nutrition, etc. There is much documentation from several nobel prize winners favor of supplements. I am old enough to pick and choose my supplements and this is
AMERICA which should give me that FREEDOM. Point the FDA to their real job prescription medicines which kill thousands every year and not by supplements.

If the FTC or the infamous FDA are given any additional regulatory powers with regard to supplements, the effects on the public will be catastrophic. Millions of us take natural vitamins, minerals and herbs to counteract the toxic environment in which we live. These nutriens are our lifeline for leading healthy, productive lives. THE EVIDENCE IS OVERWHELMING — NUTRIENTS SAVE LIVES — MOST DRUGS DESTROY LIVES.
An already overburdened health care system will become even more crippled if anti-nutrient legislation is passed.
